LEGENDARY Town stalwart Mick Harford has courted controversy by joining local rivals MK Dons as the new assistant to boss Karl Robinson.

The ex-Hatters chief, Town and England star will replace John Gorman as Robinson’s number two following his retirement, while former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has also joined as part-time first team coach.

The appointment is sure to raise eyebrows at former clubs Luton and AFC Wimbledon, but Harford said he isn’t interested in any criticism.

He said: “I’m here for football reasons, I’m not getting into the political side of it.

“I’m here to work for Milton Keynes Dons, it’s a great opportunity for me to get back into football.

“I’ve been out of work for two and a half years. Karl asked me to join him when they knew John was leaving.

“I met Karl on numerous occasions, got to know him, I was impressed by what I saw, what he talked about and his knowledge of the game, so it was an easy decision to join.”
