Injured McAllister had visions of being a Hatters hero
Craig McAllister is led from the Wembley pitch on Sunday
TOWN striker Craig McAllister thought it was he who was destined to be a Wembley hero for Luton at the weekend, writes Mike Simmonds.
Shortly after replacing Stuart Fleetwood on 61 minutes, the target man was at the back post when Andre Gray hung up an inviting cross.
It looked for all the world that he would bury his header, only for defender Lanre Oyebanjo to somehow deflect it away.
Furthermore, in the process, the duo collided and McAllister was taken from the field dripping in blood, to be replaced by Aaron O’Connor, ending his brief cameo.
Sporting a huge shiner afterwards, the striker said: “My eyes opened up, I thought, here we go. I’m not really too worried (about the injury). I’m more disappointed about the result, everyone is gutted in there.”
