Neilson bemoans Achilles heel as Hatters suffer Wembley woe

SET-PIECES again proved Town’s Achilles heel as they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat against old rivals York at Wembley on Sunday, writes Mark Wood.

An inability to defend from free-kicks and long throws has been a bugbear of the Hatters all season and it again came back to haunt them on the biggest of stages at the weekend.

Assistant manager Alan Neilson said: “You’ve got to mark players in the boxes, we haven’t done it and they’ve scored from two set-pieces, a deep free-kick and a long throw-in.

“When the manager first came in and I took the game away to Braintree, we conceded from three set-pieces and that was disappointing.

“The next day we worked on defending set-plays and being touch tight. It’s been our Achilles and they’ve scored two goals from them.”
