Poku should be fit for make-or-break finale

COMBATIVE Luton midfielder Godfrey Poku should be fit to push for selection for Hatters’ make-or-break play-off decider at Fleetwood Town tomorrow, writes Mark Wood.

The youngster had only be on the pitch for 18 minutes after coming on as a substitute in Tuesday night’s goalless draw at Gateshead when an ankle injury forced him to be replaced.

A nasty challenge had left Poku struggling on the night, but boss Paul Buckle was confident he would be available for the weekend, saying: “We think Godfrey’s going to be OK. Everyone is up for selection.”

Buckle had sprung just one surprise in the midweek draw at the International Stadium, naming Dan Walker on the bench for the first time following a long-term injury and lengthy loan spell at Southport earlier in the season.

Having recovered from the disappointment of Tuesday night’s performance and result, where victory would have guaranteed Luton a play-off place, Buckle is confident his side will be ready for the challenge of the Cod Army, despite having two long trips in such a short space of time.

He added: “They will be (focused). Of course there’s disappointment when you don’t win at any stage.

“That will be a distant memory come one o’clock on Saturtday.

“It’s on telly, a full house and everyone’s got everything to play for and really looking forward to the game.”

A win or a draw would guarantee Town a top five finish, while Kidderminster must beat Mansfield and hope Luton lose to sneak in ahead of them.

Buckle refused to be drawn on whether he might be tempted to freshen his side up after so many games in such a short space of time.

Champions Fleetwood will be receiving their title trophy on the day and Luton face the unenviable task of having to keep the league’s top scorer quiet if they are to get the result they need.

Jamie Vardy has netted 31 times in the league this term and Fleetwood reportedly turned down a seven-figure bid for his services earlier in the season.
