George Pilkington celebrates his winning penalty on Saturday

HATTERS skipper George Pilkington believes he can be the man to end Town’s penalty woes, writes Mark Wood.

His howitzer down the middle from the spot on Saturday saw the Hatters edge to a 1-0 home win over Alfreton and he’s more than happy to maintain spot-kick duties after seeing a large number of team-mates miss from 12 yards this season.

Pilkington said: “I’ve never really been a penalty taker in my career, but it was my turn to step forward and fortunately I got a good contact on it and it went in the back of the net.

“I sort of made my mind up (where to go) after I put the ball down and walked back. I think the important thing is not to change your mind. Do a little run up and just back yourself and that’s what I did. The rest was history really.”
