Ex-Town boss Richard Money has been named as the new head coach at Conference rivals Cambridge United.

Jez George has reverted to a director of football role and Money will deal with all first-team affairs.

Money, 56, said: “I’ve worked in this structure before. It’s the right structure. It’s the way forward.

“The role of head coach is the right role for someone in my position. I’m very pleased to be here.”

Money was replaced by former U’s boss Gary Brabin at Kenilworth Road back in March 2011 and has been out of work since.

The former Luton, Fulham and Liverpool defender has also managed in Sweden and Australia.

He was also boss at Scunthorpe and Walsall and during his time at Kenilworth Road had a record of 46 wins, 21 draw and 17 losses.

Former U’s youth team coach George added: “This season expectations have grown with new signings and the club celebrating its centenary year.

“Despite us having the youngest squad in the league, I believe our results have been unacceptably poor.”
