Wembley win will see Owen’s wish come true

WEMBLEY will bring all the emotions to a climax according to long-time Hatters fan and Luton Town chairman Nick Owen, writes Mark Wood.

Sunday’s play-off final against York will be Town’s seventh visit to the home of England football and TV celebrity Owen’s fifth time there.

Luton have lost four of their six appearances there with Owen having missed the FA Cup final defeat to Nottingham Forest in 1959 as an 11-year-old away at boarding school where he burst into tears and the 1988 Simod Cup final loss to Reading as he was away filming Wish You Were Here.

And having hosted ITV’s coverage of the 1990 World Cup alongside the likes of Jimmy Greaves, Sir Geoff Hurst and Gordon Banks he revealed there is nowhere else in the world he would rather be come Sunday.

He said: “There is absolutely nothing that compares to walking into the confines of Kenilworth Road at whatever level we are playing.

“Looking forward to going to Wembley is one of the ultimate things for football fans. For most fans getting to Wembley with your club is as good as it gets.

“It brings your emotions to an absolute climax for better or for worse and it’s the fact of being a football fans and it’s a great way of winning promotion if we can do it.”
