Success in Chiltern League gala for Leighton swimmers

Swimmers from Leighton Buzzard Swimming Club out in full force at Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre contesting the first round of Chiltern League, a league in which they have been successful for the last two years.

The team of 20 swimmers swam personal best times. They were: Jamie Pugh, Ben Oakes, Kayleigh Holroyd, Joe Grice, Phoebe de Voogt,Charlie Bradshaw, Ben Williamson, Emily Holden, Lucy Chapple, Brayden Ditchfield-Watkins, Alfie Barratt, Ruby Hancox, Louis Hunt, Meghan Davis, Tansy Denman, Mia Davis, Shona Black, Cassiopeia Kirchin, Isobel Kirtley and Ben Grice.

First places were achieved by Ben Oakes for his 50m breaststroke, Charlie Bradshaw and Louis Hunt for 50m freestyle, Lauren Feander and Tansy Denman for 50m backstroke, and the 50m butterfly swimmers Joe Grice, Cameron Jones, Meghan Davis and Xavier Kirchin.

Winning relay teams were the 10 year old boys special medley of Toby Evans, Alfie Barratt, Isaac Bradford and Eddie Cook, and the 14 year old girls medley team of Alice Hancox, Bethany Smith, Rhea Horne and Ruby Hancox.

The gala results were: Leighton Buzzard 210, Witney 193, Banbury 181, Bletchley 176.

Miles Drabwell, 16, a Cedars Upper School pupil gained the Junior County Champion cup for the boys 200m backstroke and 100m individual medley.

And Elliot Jones, 15, a pupil at Cottesloe School in Wing, won the Junior County Champion cup in the boys 50m freestyle and the 50m fly.

The boys also got several other second and third places in the junior events and will compete together at the South East Regional Championships next month.
