Buzzard U13s in away victory

Colts knock Stockwood Park out of Beds Cup. National Cup next week.

Leighton Buzzzard U9s

Buzzard U9s played Tabbard in Radlett. The strong team fought for a 20-all score at half time.

Buzzards showed their class in the second half and finished the game with a 40-20 win.

In the second game Buzzards carried on their dominance and won 25-5. This means throughout the entire season the squad has only had one defeat which was only by one try.

MOM was Todd Carmichael with many brilliant performances coming from Conor Briggs, who scored five tries, and Harry Charter having some storming runs with the opposition falling off him. Sam Beaumont was tigerish in defence and James Oliver gave a strong performance. All in all everyone contributed and it was a great day.

Tabard 15

Leighton Buzzard U10 35

Despite having a few players missing, Buzzards fielded a strong line-up and played some of their best rugby to date.

In the first minute, the first of five first half tries was scored. With Williams shipping the ball quickly from the breakdown, Payne was quick with his distribution out to the back line, and strong in his defence.

All sounds so simple, but it took for Beer and Murtagh working hard, with Hill out of position in the scrum, making the ball available and clearing out the hosts at the ruck, making for quick ball out wide.

Tabard weren't beaten and fought back in the second half in a much improved display.

With notable input from Wright in some sharp runs and McConnell with her strong tackling, Buzzards had the final say, putting in perhaps their strongest performance of the season. Same again next time please boys, and girl!

Leighton Buzzard U11s

U11s played Tabbard. The first match was evenly fought, although Buzzard pack of Greg Tubby, Noah Heath, Harry Gaskin, Tony Carmichael and Andrew Harris-Smith dominated the scrums.

Scrum Half Amber Walsh showed great intelligence with the pick up by passing or running with the ball. Chris Tydings and Jack wears linked up well and made many metres with their direct ball running.

Captain Owen Crossan led well in the centre with tough tackling and wingers Ellis Ritchie and Jake Nossiter showed good handling and passing skills. Full back Kieran Hawkes was a handful for the home team with his pace and scored Buzzards' first try.

A nice move from Tabbard made the scores level but they took a two point lead when the try was converted.

Second half, Hawkes scored his fifth try of the season after some sublime passing from the Buzzards. Nossiter converted with a beautiful kick down the middle. Joe Conlon supported well. Tabbards 7 Buzzards 12.

Second match was a joy to watch. The pack worked harder as Tabbard improved their scrimmaging. Excellent defending from both teams kept the scores level at 0-0.

Second half, two defensive lapses allowed the home team two converted tries but Buzzards fought back and Conlon drove over following good pressure on Tabbard's defence. Conversion Conlon.

Buzzards searched for the equaliser but sadly time ran out. Tabbards 14 Buzzards 7.

MOM was Ritchie for showing good handling and passing skills. Both coaches were very proud of the whole team for their effort and commitment. The team wishes Ryan Eaton and Kitty Woolger a speedy return from their injuries and a get well to Jordan McConnell.

Leighton Buzzard U12s

The first game against Tabard was an enthralling encounter where both teams gave their all. The first ten minutes were played in the centre of the park, neither team managing to make much ground.

Tabard then took the initiative and piled on the pressure. Tabards were camped on the Buzzard line but some excellent defensive work by the Buzzard pack kept them at bay.

Buzzards dominated the second half with the majority of the ball and they relentlessly attacked the Tabard's line.

However, a little bit of 'white line fever' crept in and the scores stayed level. With five minutes to go Buzzards gave away a penalty for offside, Tabard cleared their lines with a long kick. Tabards then won a scrum five metres out which saw their scrum half take the blindside to score. The boys kept their heads up and ran straight back at the opposition, but some stern defence by Tabards kept the Buzzards at bay.

This was a superb game with some exceptional play by Buzzards and in particular winger MOM Robbie Mitchell who tackled hard throughout.

In the second game, Buzzards showed their quality with some great attacking play. Highlight of the match was big Matt Puddyphat collecting the ball on half way, showing great skill to stretch his big legs, outrun several defenders down the line before downing the ball and celebrating. Unfortunately he grounded the ball on the five meter line and not the try line!

The final score was 56-17 with tries from Matt Puddyphat, Ewan Starling, James, Daniel White, Adam Stacey and Josh Simmonds x 3. Well done boys, great team performance. Also a big thank you to all who helped and attended the fundraiser on Friday night, in particular thanks to the contributions of Paul Simmonds, Richard Dallimore and Nicky Stacey. Hope you all enjoyed.

Bletchley 17

Leighton Buzzard U13 33

Buzzards U13s travelled to Bletchley to play their second match of the new year. Bletchley gladly took up the offer that the match be officiated by Charlie Holmes, a Buzzards U16 and qualified referee.

Having arrived in good time, Buzzards were daunted by the eventual arrival of the opposition who featured a significant number of U14s.

Bletchley do not run a separate U14s squad, but sportingly agreed that they would remove players once the match became too one-sided!

Buzzards made a slightly slow start allowing the enormous Bletchley forwards to get up a head of steam and bulldoze over for their first try - despite the best efforts of Timothy Moodey, Buzzards smallest player, who gallantly defended the blind side against players twice his size.

Buzzard had other ideas and won the first five scrums, driving Bletchley back thanks to the efforts of stand-in hooker William Batchelor and props Stevie Cox and Ben Fisher.

Peter Herring at scrum-half had an excellent game and fed fly half Jordan Clay so he could use his speedy pace.

Ben Beaumont opened Buzzards scoring as they moved the ball from an attacking scrum, finding enough space through the Bletchley line with the use of his effective sidestep and dummy. Conversion Ben Johnson.

The match was one of maximum intensity, Bletchley's bulk against Buzzards ability to tackle and tackle again.

Pressure on the opposition was key as Bletchley made too many mistakes, allowing the smaller Buzzard boys to regain possession. Crucially Cox took a loose ball on half-way and dodged and drove fifty yards for an excellent try under the posts, conversion by Ben J.

Buzzards second row of Simran Singh and Duncan Harris-Smith driving for all they were worth. The lineout was not a fruitful source of possession under the circumstances and yet even here Buzzards were able to stifle Bletchley's attacks. Buzzards' back row of Phillip Price, Reece Brown and Joshua Stocker tackled all day, but Bletchley's bulk triumphed as they scored two tries before half time.

Second half, good pressure earned a penalty. Strong and mobile Reece Harris-Smith drove over on the left wing for an excellent try.

Centre Tom King's tackling had been immense which allowed Ben Beaumont space to take the ball in a long curving run of around seventy yards to score his second try. Conversion by Ben J.

Not to be out done Stevie Cox managed a replay of his first try, again driving and dodging from about thirty yards out for Buzzards' fifth try. Convertion Ben J.

A remarkable result against 'formidable' opposition and one parents will long remember!

Ampthill Development 0

Buzzards were at home against an Ampthill Development side.

Buzzards started well and the teams lookedevenly matched, althoughthe heavier Ampthill pack pressed its advantage with some good runs up the middle, which Thomas and Messum defended well.

A back line move saw a great offload from Messum putting Bunting into space for the first score. The ball continued its way along the back line to good effect.

Pittkin, Nicholls and Davies all made good yardage and some awesome tackling by Tift, Robson and Atkinson against the bigger opposition was good to see.

Stanbridge looked hungry for the ball and hisefforts were rewarded with a run in from the Ampthill 22.

Buzzards picked up the pace and the scores came quickly against tiring Ampthill asplay to the left switched to the right and Stanbridge went in for his secondscore. Conversion Robson.

Greenran and dropped on a fly-hacked ball to take Buzzards into an unassailable lead. Towards the end of the sessionquick ball down the linecreated an overlapforStacey to score in the corner.MOM Bradley Gates.

Henley Hawks 22

Henley returned to Leighton keen to avenge their early season defeat to Buzzards. Henley started more aggressively and it was no surprise when they took an early 5-0 lead after some excellent support play.

Buzzards began to play good rugby with the front row of Connor, Tyler, and Big Ben dominating their opposite numbers.

Halfbacks Josh Price and AJ Hills began to play a fast adventurous game providing the opportunity for the outstanding Braithwaite to scamper in for a well worked try under the posts which was easily converted.

The restart saw Buzzards surging forward with full back Billy Mead making several superb breaks.

Alfie and Henry combined well and Esdon was unfortunately stopped just short of the try line.

After ten minutes of pressure the back row combination of Ollie Guyon and Joe Beaumont stole opposition ball and fed Sam Dove who broke through for a fine try. A third try went begging when first Woody was held up near the line and Harry Wears was desperately tackled after an unusually electric break from excellent ruck ball. But it was Henley who retaliated late in the first half when Buzzards were caught in possession in their own 22 and turned the ball over to an alert winger who scored in the corner.

Buzzards failed to close the game out. James Batchelor made a series of excellent driving runs but a lack of support inevitably led to the ball being turned over time and time again.

Henley made key substitutions giving them the physical edge and despite some desperate tackling from James Ellis and Harry MattesonHenley scored two quick tries. Buzzards were now shellshocked and the superior numbers and fitness of the visitors ensured they won a good match 22-14.

Buzzard Colts 67

Stockwood Park Colts 0

Buzzards started their Beds Cup campaign with a home draw against Stockwood Park, the side they had ruthlessly despatched in the first round of the National Colts Cup, earlier this season.

Park were eager to redress the balance. Buzzards, with a number of players playing in the senior sides, gave an opportunity for a number of players to stake a very valid claim for positions in next week's line up, for arguably the biggest game of the season, the National Colts Cup round of the last 16, against profession outfit Doncaster Knights Colts.

Buzzards kicked off and won successive quick ball from the breakdowns. Forwards and backs linked seamlessly and Whitehouse glided over under the posts after only two minutes for the first try, his simple conversion gave Buzzards a deserved 7-0 lead.

Park were under real pressure from the Buzzard scrum and the unfamiliar line up, including the "silent but extremely deadly" Tank Hunt at Hooker, saw them relentlessly shoved backwards.

Park were clearly a much improved side, working manfully in defence and at the breakdown, but Buzzards were just too sharp for them, as they continued to attack from all areas of the field.

Pratt, playing out of position at full back, was in fine form, so it came as no surprise when he finished off an excellent flowing move following a penalty in midfield, conversion Whitehouse.

Park were in trouble, Keating was the next to score as the Buzzard backs showed their qualities with ball in hand. conversion Whitehouse 21-0.

Then Kempster galloped in from the half way line, for a trade mark high octane score, as his great pace took him under the posts, conversion Whitehouse 27-0.

Buzzards continued to rotate players seamlessly throughout the half and it was difficult to see any chinks in their armour. Captain Overton was on hand to bag the final unconverted score of the half 33-0.

The second half was a carbon copy of the first. Scrum half Esdon, celebrated his well deserved selection for the East Midlands U17 squad, by bagging a quick fire brace of tries, one converted, following some excellent support work.

Pratt, having been withdrawn early in the first half returned to the fray and was Park's nemesis from the second he stepped back on the pitch, racing in sublimely from the half way line, with his very first possession, the difficult conversion was narrowly missed.

Prop Karl Evans was the next to score, as he powered over from close range following an excellent run from winger Booth. Conversion Whitehouse.

Buzzard backs turned up the gas further. Fine passing, excellent lines of running, and some good support play, saw them stretch the tiring defence and Pratt was on hand to score two exceptional tries, both wide out, in opposite corners. His personal tally of four is commended.

Buzzards have much to do before next week massive game.

Where else would you want to be on Saturday at 2.15pm? Supporters very welcome.
