Buzzards U14s beat Aylesbury

Colts draw Moseley in the quarterfinals of National Cup

Aylesbury 5

Leighton Buzzard U14 20

Buzzards made the short journey to Aylesbury on Sunday morning, which started off snowy but warmed up as the sun came out just beforekick off.

Both teams hada cautiousstart as the forwardsmade probing runs to test for weaknesses in each othersgame line.

An interception run from Aylesbury caught Buzzards napping but a good chase by Bunting saw him bring his man down just short of the try line to prevent the score.

Bunting was again involved in the next move as Buzzards forwards made good yardage to put him intospace and good hands down the line gave Stacey the opportunity to take it over in the corner for the first score.

The restart saw Aylesbury keep up the pressure, whicheventually gave them a scrum and theybroke free to run it in from a long way out for their first score.

The end of the first half wasa scrappy affair as Buzzards gave away too many "hands in the ruck" penalties, which kept them in their own 22until half time. The second half saw a different approach fromBuzzardswho started spinning the ball out wide to bring their strong back line into play.

Beach chased a chip, which bounced in his favour and he took it well to break through two tacklesto run ina good score.

Beach again got the ball on the wing a few plays after the restart and made a great run down the line before popping anoffload over his shoulder to Stanbridge who just got brought down short of theline.

Buzzards got a scrum in sight of the try lineand great forwards play sawGates go over from close range.

Messum gathered therestartandquick hands gaveStaceythe ballwho put his head down and ranfor the line taking on and beatingthreeor fourtacklersbefore going over for a great individual score.Man of the match- Jake Atkinson.

With a number of players unavailable Buzzards were up against it playing only their second game since Christmas.

In muddy conditions the pack was outplayed by an impressive Hemel eight. On the rare occasions that Buzzards got their hands on the ball they were obviously well below par and rarely threatened the opposition's line.

All in all a bad day at the office. With a number of players returning from vacations etc Buzzards will look for an improved performance when they travel to take on Rushden and Higham on Sunday.
