Gallant effort for Reds victory

Leighton Town striker bags hat-trick

Leighton Town 3

Biggleswade Town 1

Leighton took the honours from this clash between the Bedfordshire rivals after an excellent all-round performance and a hat-trick from Ben Gallant.

Both sides started tentatively, but the game burst into life when Leighton took the lead in the 24th minute as a low cross by Aston Goss was easily converted by Gallant from close range.

Biggleswade grabbed an equaliser in the 41st minute with a bizarre goal. Kevin Marsh had the ball in his hands but chose to kick the ball with Steele standing directly in front of him. The ball rebounded off the big striker and despite efforts by the keeper to pull him back Steele had an easy job to knock the loose ball into the empty net.

In injury time Goss once again ran at the heart of the Biggleswade defence and was brought down for a spot kick. Gallant coolly stepped up and converted the penalty with the keeper diving the wrong way.

Midway through the second half Gallant made no mistake from six yards to complete his hat-trick.

Reds: Marsh, Cunningham, McFarlane, Kench, Clifford, McNulty, Hallford, Lewis, Gallant, Porter, Goss.
