Leighton climb to fourth in table
Convincing win for Town
Leighton Town 2, Arlesey Town 0
Leighton Town climbed to fourth place in the BGB League Division One Midlands table after a convincing home win over Arlesey at Bell Close on Tuesday.
The result does not reflect Town's dominance, and only good goalkeeping and desperate defending by Arlesey kept the scoreline respectable.
Ben Gallant and Leon Gordon both went close early on and James Hatch had a header well saved.
Arlesey were restricted to a couple of long range efforts which didn't trouble Town keeper Steve Root.
Just after half time, Town took the lead in bizarre fashion when a corner from the left was smacked into his own goal by Moran as he tried to stop Peter Clifford reaching the ball.
Enzo Silvestri went close for Leighton before an Arlesey free kick was well held by Root.
Town sealed victory in the 68th minute when the goalkeeper completely missed Leon Cashman's free kick leaving Gallant to make no mistake from close range.
Hatch and Scott Thomas twice went close to increasing Town's lead while Silvestri, Thomas, Hatch and Gallant all had efforts saved.

Town will be hoping to maintain their impressive league form against Bedworth United on Saturday and AFC Sudbury on Tuesday, both at home.
