Leighton Ladies robbed of victory
Unsteady start results in first game lost
Ladies XV 12 - Kettering 17
THE first game of the season for Leighton Buzzard ladies took place on Sunday at Wrights Meadow against Kettering.
The Buzzards, fielding three brand new players, Charlotte Mason, Jo Flynn and Tor Derbyshire, had an unsteady start with difficulty in defence and also formation of play resulting in two tries being conceded taking the score to 10-0 at half time.
The second half saw a grow in confidence from the Buzzards with a better attacking line and defence, putting pressure on the opposition allowing Karen Mintern to score the first try for the Buzzards.
Kettering then replied with a try and conversion giving the Buzzards more determination to get the ball over the line once more, which they did, with Charlotte Mason making a break for the line and running to score again.
This was converted by Faye Lofthouse, taking the score to Buzzards 12 Kettering 17. A good game to start the season for both sides.
Charlotte Mason was named player of the match, and we hope to see more from her in the future.
