Middle Schools tag for success at Leighton Buzzard Rugby Club
Gilbert Inglefield win
TRIES rained in and so did a torrential downpour but it failed to dampen the proceedings of the inter-middle schools tag rugby tournament at Wright's Meadow on Wednesday.
Brooklands Middle, Gilbert Inglefield, Fulbrook, Leighton and Linslade played a round-robin timetable of tag rugby games at Leighton Buzzard Rugby Club.
The afternoon was organised by Nick Johnson from the rugby club and Chris Boardman, School Sports Coordinator for Leighton-Linslade School Sport Partnership.
They were assisted by referees Nigel Beaumont (U14 coach at Buzzards), Nigel Eaton (U10s coach) and U15s winger and RFU ref Charlie Holmes from Vandyke Upper School as well as Young Sports Leaders from Cedars Upper School.
The matches were closely fought and winners of the trophy was Gilbert Inglefield Middle with 15 points accumulated. The team had won all their matches and will now play in the County Championships on March 31.
Chris Boardman, SSCo, said: "We had a tremendous afternoon of rugby and it was great to see the excellent skills and enthusiasm of all the children who played. Thanks to LBRFC for hosting this event and supplying refreshments, we look forward to working with them again next year!"
