Teams finish on a high
Buzzards Rugby finish with tours.
LEIGHTON BUZZARD
Leighton Buzzard U10
Buzzards U10s took part in the annual national tournament at Burnham on Sea. Thanks to the hard work of tour organiser Caz Eaton, the players family and friends went along with the generosity of local companies:
H & J Plumbing and Heating, Perfect Parties, Stewart Langley Motors, All Facility Service, Energie Fitness, Raffe Photography, Mad 4 Bikes, Teakita, KP Plumbing, Rush and Warwick, Chancery Hopkins, Hone All Precison, On the Level, Buttle plc, SK1N, ECL Howard Watson Smith LLP, the staff and customers of Morrisons and Tescos, Grove design, GKP, FAI Automotive, ct Nova and Total Cool who made this tour possible.
For some of the players this was their first rugby tour and in between the two days of rugby, the players learnt and sang some rugby songs, went swimming, played rugby on the beach and had a great time.
As usual Buzzards started off slowly in the first match against Maidenhead Tigers and the Tigers took full advantage of the sleepy defence to win 20-0. Second match Buzzards played a lot better against Herford Puppies and it's still a mystery how Buzzards failed to score .Hertford capitalised on two errors and won 10-0. The third match Buzzards again started off slowly and at half time were 20 points behind Redingensians. Second half saw a different Buzzards team.
Buzzards fought back and Ryan Eaton drove past six players to score Buzzards first try. Kieran Hawkes made his trademark weaving run and scored Buzzards second try. Sadly the team's effort was not enough and the final score was 25-10. The fourth game of the day was similar to the second, where two lapses cost two tries and Buzzards lost 10-0 to Altrincham Kestrals.
Day two Buzzards seemed much more confident but fell apart when Dartfordians scored their first and ended up losing 30-0. Buzzards saved their best game to last against Hinckley. It still is puzzling why the score was 10-0 to Hinckley and not the other way around.
Buzzards played superb rugby in this game and despite losing they walked off the pitch with heads held high.
The players were a credit to the club with some opponents in the matches wanting "afters" but the Buzzards kept their cool and let their tackling do the talking.
The players were Ryan Eaton and Chris Tydings who gave everything and more despite both being battered, Harry Gaskin who hooked superbly despite a few kicks in the scrums, Owen Green who showed what a great player he can be with his best rugby of the season, Noah Heath who is developing into a great forward and is starting to ruck better, Tony Carmichael who tackled well and made some great runs, Jack Wears who battled well and was unlucky not to score, Amber Walsh and Joe Conlon who both had great games as scum halves, Kieran Hawkes who used his pace to make good ground, Jordan McConnell and Adrian Gallie who despite being two of the smallest players tackled the biggest players on the pitch, Andrew Harris Smith who showed his strength and power by driving past players, Lucy Kelly passed very well and gave good support and Curtis Crowley also did very well as hooker.
>> Leighton Buzzard U15s finished the season off with a tour to Chester. The team finished in third place in the plate competition.
Training for the new season will start on Sunday, September 6, 10am at Wrights Meadow, Leighton Road, Stanbridge. The U15s (U16s in September) would particularly welcome new players.
