Young Buzzards miss out on Plate final victory

Leighton Buzzard U13s came up just short on Sunday, losing out in the final of the East Midlands Plate to Kettering.

A bright start by both sides saw each jostling for the upper hand, leading to Kettering opening the scoring 10 minutes in.

Buzzards came back hard with some excellent tackling and open play.

However, Kettering’s rucking was just that much faster and more competitive than Leighton’s, which meant that Buzzards spent much of the half without the ball.

Kettering took advantage of their possession, and scored two more tries without reply to extend their lead.

Once Buzzards had worked out that they could compete at the breakdown, their confidence began to grow and eventually they managed to put a fine passage of play together.

This lead to Ellis scoring another fine try following some hard fast running directly into the heart of the opposition pack.

The second half was even tighter, with ferocious tackling from both sides and some first class rucking by the Buzzard pack who really had their tails up now.

Unfortunately, the young Buzzards couldn’t close the score and were beaten by the stronger side on the day, but gave a very creditable account of themselves.

Having reached two finals in their first season of Junior rugby is nothing to be ashamed about though and are already looking forward to next season.
