FRYING pans were at the ready for the annual Shrove Tuesday pancake race at Thrift Road recreation ground, Heath and Reach.
The W.I organisers were feeling a bit flat after fears the event would go down the pan due to the weather.
But it was oil-right on the day as the competitors arrived with frying pans covered in clingfilm to protect their pancakes from the impending rain.
St Leonards Lower School pupils, teachers, parents and W.I members all lined up to run the race while tossing their pancakes and being battered by the wind.
The adults had cracking relay and individual races won by Ian Capp and David Grasby, a teacher at St Leonards.
Next up, it was the children who showed everyone how it's done.
The Year 1 race was won by Ellis Capp with Catherine Riley coming in a close second.
Ronan Pudylyk came first followed by Lauren Chandler for the Year 2 group.
Arthur Read won the race for the Year 3s with Harry Jackson crossing the line second.
The Year 4 group winner was Beth Hill who just beat Thomas Mandry.
Charlie Clements won the race for the Over 9s group and Sam George finished in second place.
