Poultry show draws entrants from the coast

FOWL fanciers from near and far converged on Billington Village Hall last Sunday for the annual Billington Poultry Club show.
The show attracted 220 live exhibits and 102 plates of eggs.
A Sebright True Bantam owned by local breeder Christine Balaam took the trophy for best in show, best true bantam and best ladies exhibit.
Essex man Alan Brown won the reserve cup for his Old English Bantam cockerel.

Best soft feather was won by L Lawrence of Slough and Kerry Wilson of Markyate went home with the trophy for best trio.

Club secretary 'Nobby' Ward was triumphant in the rare breed category with his German Langshan cockerel, and tbe best waterfowl was an Aylesbury duck owned by Paul Hayes of Dunstable.

Best juvenile member was won by Christine Parish of Ampthill, best juvenile hard feather went to Charlotte Stacey also from Ampthill and best juvenile soft feather was won by Lucia Hawks.

Colchester man Tom Harrington took the trophy for the best plate of eggs.

Mr Ward said: "It was a lovely day with lots of visitors, some from as far away as Great Yarmouth.

"Junior membership is up and poultry keeping is increasing in popularity."
