A special Children’s Day has been organised to mark the first anniversary of the Leighton-Linslade Children’s Trail.
The fun-packed event takes place on Sunday, August 18 and is part of the town council’s Summer Sundays initiative.
The day will start at the town’s library on Lake Street from 11am, where families will be greeted The White Rabbit and the Mad Hatter and stilt walkers who will show them into the library for the start of their adventure.
Join in the arts and crafts by making your own mask to wear on the trail. Plus the Book Bear will be available reading some of the your favourite classic children’s stories that inspired the Trail.
Families are encouraged to collect their maps, pencils and clue sheets before setting off to explore the magical Children’s Trail.
The trail takes about 45 minutes to complete. Beginning at the library and finishing at Parsons Close, the trail features 22 imaginative pieces of art inspired by characters and text from children’s stories; it weaves through and around the town.
The trail was launched by children’s author Julia Jarman and created by artist Martin Hernon. It was inspired by the town’s links with Mary Norton, the author of children’s books The Borrowers and Bedknobs and Broomsticks who spent much of her childhood in Leighton Buzzard.
Parsons Close will be transformed into a Mad Hatter’s tea party.
There’ll be a fancy dress competition and families can visit Perfect Parties on Lake Street to get their costumes.
