Town U15s in third round of the cup
LEIGHTON TOWN
Brookfield Rangers Kestrels 1 Leighton Town U10 6
The Reds are back to winning ways with this emphatic away victory. Straight from the kick off Anthony Ball pushed forward and hit the target with a well worked move.

The reliable partnership in defence of Alessandro Frantellizzi and Kieran Read worked hard, as did Luke Mills in midfield. Charlie Waters scored from a great shot that the keeper couldn't hold, and Anthony got his second just before half time.

Mathew Callow was his usual busy self down the wing and Owen Cavender in the Town goal was hardly tested at all, apart from a penalty that Kestrels converted from one of their few attacks.

After the break the introduction of Rhys Cullen gave the home side more problems with his running on goal and that paid off when he also got on the score sheet with a rebounded shot. Subs Connor Rowson and Liam Rawlings both had solid games, and the rout was complete when MoM Charlie scored his second and Anthony completed his hat trick.

A great all round team performance and hopefully they can build on it to move up the table.

Sacred Heart Girls 4 Leighton Town Girls U12 3
Town were weakened through unavailability and injury but still put on a great show to end the season in good spirits.

The opportunity to finish as runners up was all the incentive the girls needed to attack with enthusiasm throughout the match. Special mention goes to the four goalkeepers, Kiera Lewis, Sian Kennett, Becky Langthorne and Milly Mander.

Despite contending with missing boots and a wrist injury Charlotte Carpenter showed commitment by taking the field.

Jodie Turney ran her socks off and Chanice Lewis battled against determined midfield opponents.

Rae Glennon showed tenacity at the back as she competed against the Sacred Heart attack.

Milly Mander scored a great hat-trick that would have won most matches but Sacred Heart refused to buckle and grabbed a great victory.

A combination of soft goals conceded and missed chances cost Town dear but at least they provided some great entertainment.

Leighton Town U14 2 Chesham 1
Town started slowly and looked tired. Chesham took advantage and soon went one up but Town found their pace and movement playing some great football. Amy was distributing the ball with great aplomb and the forward line soon threatened Chesham's goal constantly.

Jess held the ball up and fed it to both Danielle and Kerry making runs through. Niamh pushed forward to support Sym through the middle and when they were beaten Daisy tidied up at the back as usual.

Charlotte ran and ran through the first half, Kirsten came back on and allowed Kerry more freedom to attack, this soon led to her equaliser; route one from Amy.

Town were in control now, Carlie forced her way into the middle, the whole team fought together for that winner.

Kerry got on the end of a move involving most of the team and slotted the ball into the corner of the net past the advancing keeper.

Leighton Town U15 2 Crawley Green Youth A 4
Luke Evans' bravery caused an early scramble in the Crawley box, but when they subsequently broke and scored, Town could have folded.
Last defender Dominic Cooper produced a good clearance and Matt Fisher a brave blocking save as Leighton hung on.

Gradually parity was established, resolute Lee Adams and canny Alfie Ruston stung the keeper's hands with successive strikes and Tom Gordon hit the outside of a post.

Gordon's probing run then gave Town excellent field position; Jordan Potter's ensuing long throw was met by Charlie Green's deft glancing header to level the score.

Crawley scored twice within five minutes of the restart, one a thunderous volley, but again the Reds bounced back.

Substitute Danny O'Donnell helped shut down a flank, then heroic defender Callum Boskett headed a superb Luke Binding throw just wide. Jack Sewell's quality back-heel then put in Gordon, and having been chopped down, Tom slotted home the penalty himself.

Sparks flew as Liam Edwards' powerful shot was blocked by the keeper's foot, Boskett's header flew just wide, and Potter had a thunderbolt cleared off the line. Fisher and Boskett brilliantly combined to stop a certain goal, but a relieved Crawley managed a fourth late on.

Crawley Green Youth A 0 Leighton Town U15 2
Early on Crawley probed, but the calm authority of Dominic Cooper, power and thumping clearances of Callum Boskett, and aerial bravery of Liam Edwards firmly closed the door. Luke Evans' tigerish display when introduced early, and Matt Fisher's sharp saves and good all-round game kept things that way throughout the contest.

Town defended from the front, with Jack Sewell and Tom Gordon harrying hard. Crawley midfielders found Charlie Green, Luke Binding, Lee Adams and Jordan Potter instantly denying them time and space.

Leighton also produced some lovely attacks, as training ground pass and move routines were translated to the game situation, and both Sewell and Gordon went close.

After the break Sub Danny O'Donnell helped maintain Town's superb defensive effort. Tighe Campbell also came on, showing lovely touches up front. After some quality passing from Alfie Ruston, Campbell ran onto a Potter through ball and neatly gave the Reds the lead.

Sewell then produced a plunging run and saw his effort saved by the keeper's foot; the unlucky Ruston's follow-up shot was then tipped onto the bar.

Gordon's splendid corner produced a Boskett header that was cleared off the line; Ruston's calm finish clinched a momentous victory.

AFC Kempston Colts 2 Leighton Town U15 1
A physical encounter with Kempston resulted in Town picking up a number of injuries. The first half saw Town in the ascendancy making full use of the slope. Luke Binding looked sharp in attack before departing with ligament damage.

A deserved lead was taken as Liam Edwards volleyed home from fully thirty yards after his initial free-kick had been blocked.

Town's midfield held sway with the clever passing of Alfie Ruston complementing the tough tackling and aerial power of Charlie Green and Lee Adams.

The second half saw Town defending deeply to protect their lead. Dominic Cooper and Boskett fought manfully with able support from Luke Evans and Jordan Potter, both of whom picked up minor knocks. Matt Fisher pulled off a couple of acrobatic saves.

Danny O'Donnell and Tom Gordon relieved the pressure with some neat interchanges, and Town counter-attacked with intent but unable to fashion any clear-cut chances.

Kempston finally broke the resistance when a deep cross was prodded home at the far post. A late winner from another long cross was a bitter pill for Town's walking wounded.

Crawley Green Youth B 1 Leighton Town U15 6
Town began strongly when Jordan Potter played a good cross into the box that appeared to have been dealt with, Charlie Green arrived from nowhere and triumphantly hooked the ball home. Leighton then became complacent, and their opponents equalised with a speculative strike.

Jack Sewell soon probed effectively, and the ball fell to Lee Adams whose slide-rule pass enabled Sewell himself to restore Town's lead.

Within two minutes of the restart Tom Gordon's enticing corner was expansively headed in by Liam Edwards.

After a thunderous Sewell strike came back off the post, and Tom Coleman's shot was cleared off the line, Town crafted a neat fourth when Danny O'Donnell and Coleman combined well to facilitate Sewell's cross for Gordon to drill home. Tireless Luke Binding had a shot saved and Callum Boskett went close as Town dominated.

Keeper Matt Fisher made a neat catch and Dominic Cooper and Luke Evans showed good presence as the Reds coped comfortably defensively. Coleman's killer pass then set up Tighe Campbell for Leighton's fifth. Finally, Alfie Ruston's awareness, pace and crossing, put in Sewell for an excellent final goal.

Caldecote 1 Leighton Town U15 5
Town progressed into the third round of the League Cup with a comprehensive victory against lower division opposition.

An early burst into the Caldecote area by Tom Coleman provided a tap-in for Jack Sewell. Town soon found themselves two up as Sewell headed home from a quality Tom Gordon corner.

Town continued to press forward with Luke Evans firing narrowly wide and Luke Binding seeing his header well saved. Lee Adams then prodded the ball into the path of Callum Boskett who powered home.

Sewell completed his hat-trick squeezing a shot in at the near post. A lucky break allowed Caldecote to pull a goal back just before half-time.
Midfield lynchpin Charlie Green, defenders Dominc Cooper, Jordan Potter and Boskett ensured Matt Fisher was given no further alarms in goal.

Town created a succession of further chances. Alfie Ruston hit the post with a shot and the bar with a fine header. Tighe Campbell twice went close and Danny O'Donnell's volley forced the Caldecote keeper into an excellent finger-tip save. Binding also hit the post following another flowing move.

The final gloss was provided by Boskett as he forced home his second and Town's fifth goal.

WOODSIDE

Woodside Wanderers U10 3 Cranfield Colts 1
Despite chances at both ends neither team managed to capitalise early on, and as the match progressed the majority of play was limited to the middle of the pitch. As the first half was drawing to a close Jamie found himself in space on the left hand side and his long range effort found the back of the net to give Woodside the lead.

The second half started at a high tempo and both teams were battling for every ball. Five minutes in after a goalmouth scramble Jack doubled the lead but almost immediately after the restart Cranfield pulled one which set up an exciting final 25 minutes. Woodside continued to create chances but could not extend their lead, Cranfield pressed hard and Woodside had to stay composed at the back, as the match was drawing to a close Jack scored his second to seal the win for Woodside.

Team: Nat Goodlad, Dan Davison, James Wright, Tom Herbert, Luke Orlando, Jack Viera, MoM Jamie Leighton, James Heggarty, Ross Janes.

Moretonville Jrs Rangers 1 Woodside Rovers U11 2
Captain Alex Batty started in inspirational form, leading his side against a spirited Moretonville who were intent on attack. The Woodside defence, marshalled by Batty, held their shape with the dependable sweeper Jones and the outstanding stopping and catching of keeper Roberts, repelling the waves of attacks. Bell and Connew played their part from Midfield with acute awareness of danger and resultant strong tackles. Woodside ended the half 1-0 up after a great defence-splitting pass from Coleman found O'Connor, who with work to do, beat the full back and scored with a fine low shot.

Although Moretonville again started the second half with pace, it was Woodside who looked the better side. Davies covered every inch of the pitch supported by Mathews, winning tackles and starting attacks. One of the best of these saw Bell and Coleman combining for Batty to be denied by the post.

Another saw Winters and O'Conner causing panic for the Moretonville defence and a resulting penalty was smashed in by Connew's left foot drive. Moretonville pulled a goal back, but Jones, Drosihn and Batty defended with spirit to preserve the win.

City Colts Ospreys 6 Woodside Rovers U12 1
Woodies were undone by some wayward finishing and some genuine bad luck but not through any lack of effort. Colts who took the lead and went on to score twice more before the interval. Nevertheless the defence was well marshalled by MoM Luke Boyes and Robbie James. Both were well supported by Fionn Bell, Lewis Pascoe and Robert Irons. Both keepers John Shaw and George Fidczuk made crucial saves. In midfield James Harman gave 100 per cent, Dominic Lombino had his usual busy game, Oscar Russell patrolled the left side well while Charlie Mead tried to use his subtle skills to good effect on the right.

In the second-half up front the creativity and long throws of Rhys Davies gave his side opportunities and from one Tom Boozer pulled a goal back from close range and then hit the post with a flicked header from another. Keigan Smith and Kieren Fosberry tried to use their pace to unsettle the defence but, it wasn't Woodies day.

LEIGHTON UNITED
Leighton United U10 Girls 10 Flitwick Eagles U10 Girls 2
In a complete reversal of fortunes compared with the previous meeting of the two sides, United romped home with plenty to spare.

Flitwick took an early lead against the run of play through a penalty awarded for a foul. United pressed forwards from then on and Jasmine Page quickly equalised after intercepting a goal kick. Charlie Lambert won the ball in midfield and passed to Page who put Rachel Moffat clear on the right and her long shot gave United the lead a minute later.

Page tussled hard and worked her way through the Flitwick defence to make it 3-1. Alisa Chapman had seen a few shots saved before latching onto Moffat's long pass to make it 4-1.  Page broke through again and her parried shot fell to Chapman for a 5-1 half time scoreline.

Jade Lindars slid a pass down the right for Moffat to fire home from long range to make it 6-1. A great passing move starting at the back with Lucie Webster saw a carbon copy of the previous goal with Moffat completing another hat-trick with an unstoppable blast into the bottom corner. Another break down the right and Moffat chipped the keeper from an impossible angle to the top corner for 8-1 and her fourth of the game.

Charlotte Mulford played outfield and was linking well with Savannah Shepherd, not allowing Flitwick any time on the ball.  Mulford had a shot saved before Flitwick broke free, needing Lambert, now in goal, to make a good save. Chapman effectively finished the game off with a great individual goal and her first hat-trick this season.

The visitors scored a late consolation but Chapman was not finished and broke away to blast her fourth of the day. United remain third in the league with three games left. Player of the match was Alisa Chapman.

Eastcotts U10B 3 Leighton United U10 D 5
United travelled to Kempston with an under-strength team for their first game back after the Easter break, but in their final game of the season they all put in superb performances.

Sam Olson in goal made crucial saves throughout the game, Louis Lenander and Joel Parish played well at the back as well as Torrum Ozturk when called upon.

United found themselves a goal down after a good move, but the midfield of Jay Parish, Zoe Molloy and Robert Smith tried to turn the game around with excellent passes to Grant Brandon as the lone striker. After going 2-0 down, a brace from Grant put them level before the break and he completed his hat-trick after the interval.
Louis, Joel, Torrum and Robert all helped defend with some excellent tackles.

United got a corner after having about five throw-ins and Zoe crossed for Joel to head the ball in the goal for his first goal of the season.
Grant banged in number five and although Eastcotts scored a superb third United held on to their lead. PoM Joel Parish.

Leighton United U11A 1 AFC Dunstable 0
United's midweek loss needed to be put behind them, and at first it was a shaky start as Dunstable rattled the bar.

United then started to use the pitch with Paolo Bagatti using the left wing to find Brett Rason who expertly crossed balls into the path of Charlie Beary, who was unlucky not to score. Liam McGuire's superb header also narrowly missed. AFC worked Jake Shawe and Ollie Hibbitt hard but the defiant back four and good positioning from Charlie Cooper absorbed any threats. The half came to a close with a low driven shot from Jono tipped away from the near post. The second half started with Neel pushing up the right wing and a good strike from him forced the keeper to save. Finally United's persistence was rewarded with a great goal from MoM Jono.

United kept the pressure up with Balls being fed from Luke Janes up the left wing for a battling Jordan Davis to cross into the box, and nearly a second after Harry Landers shot hit the post. Jono finished the game with another shot that required a fingertip save by Dunstable's keeper.

Leighton United U11A 0 Crawley Green Youth A 2
Leighton were soon forced into their own half by a very strong Crawley side and Luke Janes in an unfamiliar defensive role managed to clear some early threats. Crawley then broke through the United defence with a combined attack, and if it wasn't for the great tackle and clearance by Paolo Bagatti, it would have been Crawley's first goal. United then responded, and JC directed a lovely through pass to Jono who struck the ball firmly, but unable to beat the Crawley keeper.

United still applied pressure and a superb Brett Rawson corner fell to Charlie Beary whose shot was deflected wide. The last ten minutes was made very uncomfortable for United and Crawley's pressure rewarded them with two quick goals. United needed an early goal in the second half to get back into itand Jordan Davis nearly provided it with a shot just over the bar. Crawley still pressured the defence but Jake Shawe and Ollie Hibbitt cleared well. Crawley would have had two more goals, but two great saves from Charlie Cooper kept United's hopes alive. The battle was still not over and MoM Liam McGuire, struck a superb free kick that shook the bar, but it wasn't United's day.

Leighton United U14 0 Leighton Town 3
It looked ideal conditions for the home side's hustle and bustle style on a small bumpy pitch but the Town lads put in a tremendous display. From kick off they kept the hosts on the back foot and could easily have been four up at half time with Chatterton heading against the crossbar and post from Pursey corners and Payne rifling a low drive which the keeper did well to stop.

More of the same was required in the second half but the home side showed their fighting spirit being driven on by their captain Tickle. The result might have been different if Kirkwood hadn't saved at the striker's feet when he was through one on one. Town's first came when Mander fired a long free kick into the six yard box which the unlucky United shot stopper dropped at Bowdery's feet to break the deadlock.

United now pushed on which left gaps at the back and Bowdery again exploited this following another Mander pass to make it 2-0. In the final moments there was still time for Penn to finish neatly for the third and to nearly claim a hat trick as he brought the best out of the United goalie.

Kensworth 0 Leighton United U16 2
United came to play football, Kensworth came to frustrate. Their tactics and gritty resolve will not win many friends, but has seen a rise in recent form.

Minney was unlucky not to score when his lob struck the bar with the keeper beaten. The first goal came after a break down the right wing saw the ball crossed into the box, several United players got a foot to it before Roberts drove it home from close range.

The midfield battle continued with few chances being created at either end. As United took more control of the game in the second half, Kensworth's frustrations earned them three bookings and it could have been more.

The game was settled when a cross from joint MoM Minney on the right wing was finished off by MoM Ratcliffe, replacing Roberts up front.
A good display under difficult circumstances from the team, which also consisted of Webb (who added to his tally of clean sheets since returning from injury), King, Corbett, Lynch, Butler, Lafferty, Goodyear, Cheshire, Mulvihill, Perrin and Nichols.

Leighton United U16 3 Bedford Park Rangers 0
The game was evenly contested with fourth place United, who have two games in hand, snapping at the heels of third place BPR. Starting with Roberts as a lone striker, a 4-4-2 format saw United take charge.

The defence of Perrin, Dyer, MoM Lynch and Butler were outstanding, covering each other well and confident enough to play the ball out of defence on the ground.

The midfield of Rafferty, Mulvihill, Goodyear, and Cheshire battled well and produced some fine passing moves.

Corbett joined the midfield when Cheshire moved up front.
United took the lead when Roberrts and Goodyear were involved in a goal mouth scramble which MoM Goodyear forced home. The lead was extended when a long high cross from Perrin, created confusion and Mulvihill was able to head home.

The introduction of the pace of King and Minney added to the problems for BPR. A goal kick from Lynch found Goodyear in midfield, his through ball was latched onto by Minney who lobbed the advancing keeper to seal the victory.

The whole team were excellent and deserved their ninth consecutive win and fifth clean sheet in six games.

Leighton United U16B 2 Watling U16 2
United took the lead when a great cross by Cheshire from the centre of midfield found King, who lofted the ball into the net. Dyer, Lynch, Perrin and Nichols kept the pacy Watling strikers in check and goalkeeper Webb made two great tackles near the edge of the box.

Watling equalised when United failed to close down a player on the edge of the box, a speculative shot found the net with their first shot on target. United picked themselves up and the midfield of Lafferty, Corbett, Goodyear, battled well as did Cheshire and Butler when introduced into the fray. Ratcliffe was strong up front assisting Minney
United extended their lead when MoM Minney picked up the ball just over the half way line. His pace took him past everyone, before he cut in towards the box and fired in a terrific strike.

With 15 minutes to go United looked like extending their winning run, but with three minutes remaining Watling equalised with their second shot on target.

LEIGHTON CORINTHIANS
Leighton Corinthians U8 v Olney Falcons
The first period was played at a quick pace with Olney scoring first blood with a goal that hit the under side of the crossbar. Corinthians fought hard and managed to win a corner. Ellis Capp took it and Oliver Gronert poked it in.

There were end to end chances with Josh Harding Mant producing some good saves.

In the second period Ellis scored the first of his three goals but the Corinthians had a bad period with Olney scoring three of their own and Jack Dean, Megan Claggett and Jarrod Russo fought hard in midfield and defence to keep it to three.

In the third period Corinthians scored two quick goals from Oliver and Ellis but as they tired Olney managed another two strikes. In the fourth period it was end to end stuff again before Olney scored the last goal of the game.

Thanks to Peter Armstrong for turning up to support the team after being ill. Josh was named Player of the Day for his efforts in goal.

Bedford FC 5 Corinthians Lions U14 0
The Lions were understrength for this match, against the potential champions who were determined to seek a better result than the flattering 2-0 victory they gained at Tilsworth.

They tried very hard throughout and fared better in the second half holding the home side to two goals after they had lead 3-0 at the interval. With only two league games left with a four week gap between them the Lions may have to seek "friendlies" in order to retain their match fitness.

Cranfield Colts 0 Leighton Corinthians Tigers U14 6
A comprehensive victory was a just reward for an outstanding team performance from an in form Tigers team. They dominated both halves yet led only 1-0 at the interval. Morgan O'Connell went close for Tigers early on and Matthew Ferguson had a shot cleared off the line before latching on to a poor clearance to open the scoring. Felix Long almost doubled Tigers' lead but Cranfield prevented any further score. At the back Tigers looked solid, with Jordan Lapworth, Thomas Knight and Chris Lawford being rarely troubled.

After the break Tigers stepped up a gear with Conor Goodger and Billy Pantling taking charge of the midfield. MoM Pantling scored a hat trick including a fine run and shot, a header from a corner and a well taken penalty to take the game beyond Cranfield's reach. The excellent Rhys Richards provided a fine through ball for the hard-working Macauley Conway to score Tigers' fifth and Googder set up Richard Batten to complete an emphatic win.

LINSLADE GREENLEAS
Linslade Greenleas Athletico U9 2 Willen Junior Falcons 0
A stretched squad with no substitutes saw Athletico having to work hard but the team responded with one of their best all-round performances for many weeks.Athletico attacked aggressively against a physically bigger team and from some excellent passing play between Dimeo and Captain Culley, Williams was able to knock the ball home for an early opener.

The visitors continued to be put under pressure and despite some strong counter-attacks, Dillamore's Furnishings MoM Cantwell was resolute with a strong defensive display.

Although Athletico had most of the possession, it took until just before half-time for a second score, this time from Liggett at close-quarters – again, following some good one-twos and passages of passing up the wing.

In the second-half, the game opened up with end to end action. Despite some early pressure from the Falcons, a clean sheet was kept by Axford for the fourth time this season.

As the game moved towards the final quarter, some strong play out of defence by Potter, led to Athletico pushing hard to try and put the score beyond doubt, but some good saves by the Falcons keeper kept the score at 2-0 in a well-contested match.

LGFC are holding trials for next season's U11 / U12 teams on April 29 and May 6. The U10 team (Athletico) are also looking for a couple of extra players. Visit www.lg-fc.org for more information.

Deanshanger Mustangs U11 9 Linslade Greenleas U11 1
Linslade Greenleas Inter were a little below par against a very lively Deanshanger team. The first half was a very even affair with both sides playing fast attacking football. George Higginson made a wonderful penalty save early on to prevent the home side taking the lead but shortly after Mustangs did score with a well-worked goal. This lifted Inter and a few minutes later they were unlucky not to equalise after good work from Kyle Gallagher and Callum Hack and a ferocious Abbie Hall shot which struck the post.

The woodwork came to the rescue for Deanshanger again on 25 minutes when striker Harry Cosby beat his marker only for his shot to rebound off the far post.

On the stroke of half time the Mustangs doubled their lead with a goalmouth scramble. The second half started with a flurry of goals – first Deanshanger increased their lead, then Harry Cosby pulled one back, then Mustangs scored their fourth goal which ended the match as a contest. The home side scored five more goals and dominated the rest of the match but the Inter boys kept trying until the end. MoM George Pepper.

Willen Juniors 5 Linslade Greenleas Real 3
Real started brightly and enthusiastically with some good passing moves from the kick off, James Francis, Jonnie Jeffcoate and Nic Brown speared the attack with frequent raids on the Willen goal. The usual back line of Jake Carpenter, James Ward, Jay Denniston organised themselves in front of Matt Tubb in goal to hold up Willen breaks. The deadlock was finally broken by Willen only for Real to bounce straight back via a Jeffcoate goal.

The first five minutes of the second half was a nightmare for Real whose back line went walkabout as Willen grabbed four goals. Real's true second half re-started shortly afterwards, the defence took shape and the midfield of Billy Woolhead, MoM Liam Doodey and Danny Bride began to take control.

Real got a goal back from a fine effort from Billy and further amends were made by a long range shot from Liam.
Real peppered the Willen goal in the last 10 minutes but were unable to make it count thanks to strong defending and goal keeping from Willen.

EATON BRAY LIONS

Luton Borough Dragons U8 v EB Lions U8 Blues
Lions acquitted themselves well against top flight opponents, conceding a single goal and creating a panoply of textbook football to score twice in the first half and once in the second. Goals came through Joe Rabey (2) and an Ollie West penalty.

Myles Frederick was instrumental in establishing the forward momentum of the team throughout, accompanied by Toby McGee. Midfielders Sam Carter and Sam Bramston were energetic in both attacking and defensive roles, while on the back line Joe Thorne and James Glover offered a stubborn and effective resistance to the Borough strikers.

Keeper Cameron Burchell produced a handful of fine saves to frustrate the hosts, safeguarding what was to be one of the Lions' most notable performances of the season.

EB Lions U9 Reds 3 AFC Luton 0
The Lions started strongly and went close a few times before Jack Quigley found Dax Roe, who opened the scoring. Playing into a strong wind the defence of Ryan Luff and Findlay Christie played well together and helped Toby Higgs in goal keep another clean sheet.

With the wind behind them in the second half the Lions midfield of George Oliver and Jack Nevitt continued to control the game and then four minutes into the second half a throw in from Nevitt to Roe and then a cross into the penalty box from Nevitt gave Oliver the chance to score a great header. Ten minutes later a free kick from Oliver was helped on its way by Nevitt and the Lions were 3-0 up. The Lions played some really good football today and played for the team and not just for themselves.

Team: Roe, Quigley, Oliver, Nevitt, Higgs, Luff, Christie.

EB Lions U11 2 Sandy Colts U11 7
A superb strike from Mason Ashby and an own goal deflected in from a curling Sean Woodhouse cross couldn't help the Lions in a match which slipped away from them after the break.

It was 1-1 at half-time but Lions ought to have netted on two or three more occasions, effective forward Will Juster just failing to complete a string of promising runs. Following the break, the home side faced an uphill gradient and an opposing wind, which Sandy were well able to capitalise on. Despite some accomplished keeping by Dan Kennel the visitors seemed to find a surge in momentum and scored six times.

But there was excellent defensive work from Ben Roberts, Tom Horner, Aaron Gauntlett, Aarin Johnson and Will Petherbridge, and energetic play by a well linked midfield comprising Dominic Ryan, Chris McGee, Mason Ashby and Charlie Nevitt.

SOUTHCOTT OWLS
Southcott Owls U13 1 Square U14 8
Owls started with much gusto, but after the first of Squares goals went in, heads dropped. Apart from the odd occasion that saw sparks of the old Owls passing and movement game, there wasn't much to write home about. The away side went in five up at half time.

The second half saw more aggression from the midfield but there were gaps at the back and Square were soon six up, but from a quick throw the ball broke out to Bramston who drove a ball to the far post for Howard to pass into the net for Southcott's goal. Goalkeeper Hartfield and the defense of Thomas, Gillings, Capt Clegg, MOM Bell and Tift did play well despite the scoreline. The midfield of Murray, Foulger, Messam, Moffat, Bramston and Brown had a better second half, with Waterhouse and Howard pressing the visitor's defence. Southcott can come away from the match knowing that they can play good football, but only if they put their minds to it.

WING RAIDERS
Wing Raiders U11 2 Woburn Lions Hurricanes 2
Wing dominated early play, with strikes from Barrett, Goode and a fabulous drive from Allen that flew just over the bar.

Woburn broke, but quick thinking by keeper M Jones (Capt), and MoM Giltrow denied them. Wiggins headed the resulting corner clear and set up a counterattack. Goode went inches wide with a blistering shot, then W Jones hit the post.

Woburn started the second half brightly but couldn't break through Wing's midfield of Chapman, Allen and W Jones.

Another Wing attack saw Chapman set up Barrett but the woodwork again saved Woburn. Barrett then laid the ball on for McSweeney who shot crisply into the corner to make it 1-0.

Woburn pushed, but keeper M Jones was in fine form, while Giltrow, Allen and Wiggins held fast until a Woburn corner led to a deflected goal 1-1. Wing then quickly conceded a second goal. 1-2. Wing had a chance to equalise when a great ball from Giltrow set up McSweeney but his powerful strike went wide.

Minutes later, McSweeney cut in from the right and hit a terrific strike over the Woburn keeper. MoM Giltrow, for a spirited performance.
