Woodside Wanderers U15s had hoped to extend their unbeaten run
LEIGHTON TOWN
Sandy Colts U8
Leighton Town Reds U8
Town started this game wanting to erase last week's performance and they did just that. Reds were passing superbly with Edward a rock in defence and Freddie working with Charlie well. A one-two between Charlie and Sam led to the latter scoring. Leo was strong at the back and Nathan running well with the ball found Sam who slotted home his second and Reds were looking good. Charlie and Freddie went close.

Colts hit back against the run of play and Reds pushed on again.

In the second half, Louis and Henry linked up well and chances came and went. Colts stuck six behind the ball to try and stem the flow. Archie on as sub passed to Freddie who in turn gave the ball to Charlie who finished into the top hand corner to make it 3-1. Josh had little to do but did well with the things thrown at him. Edward was outstanding at the back earning him Man of the Match. Well played lads a great performance from all of you.

Toddington Rovers A 1
Leighton Town U9 3
In the first half, Town attacked from the start with incisive passing from David and Nathan which led to Nathan twice rounding the keeper but just running out of room before he could finish.

Callum had an outstanding game at the back and along with Alex looked firm to anything thrown at them. George was making great runs and Jack passing ther ball around well. Town took the lead when great passing led Nathan to square the ball for David to make it 1-0. Leyton came on and battled well using the ball wisely. Rovers came back into the game through Town once again not clearing their lines.

In the second half, Town pressed and knocked it around well. Bradlee was on and stood tall in defence. A free kick by jack led to George putting Town in front again and this time they never looked back.

Chances came and went and with Luke on to secure the back and hold what they had got George finished well to make it 3-1. Isaac was called into action late on and was handling safely once again. MoM Callum.

Leighton Town U10 2
Brickhill Wanderers 2
Town knew they were in for a hard fought game with Brickhill making the early pressure, but the first real chance of the game fell to Rhys Cullen who just shot over the bar.

Mathew Callow's running down the left wing caused the Brickhill defence problems throughout and he opened the scoring with a well hit effort that the Brickhill keeper bundled across the line.

Town goalie Owen Cavender was on great form and pulled off several great reaction saves, but just before half time the Wanderers scored an equaliser from a corner.

Subs David Alexander and Connor Rowson came on and battled hard and Luke Mills had a couple of chances, but Brickhill hit back to take the lead.

Kieran Read and MoM Alessandro Frantellizzi blocked any further attacks and with Charlie Waters working tirelessly up front more chances were made.

Town forced a free kick just out side the box amd when Anthony Ball's powerful shot was too much for the keeper.

Town almost got the winner with the last kick of the game but somehow Rhys and Charlie couldn't connect and the ball just wouldn't cross the line.

Leighton Town Spartans U12 3
Oakley Rangers 1
Town's return after a week off showed them at their slick, sumptuous best and in control from the start. Luke Whitby was able to cut through Oakley's defence thanks to the in-form supporting midfield cast of Billy Patterson, Jordan Koch, Darren Sanderson, Callum Waldock, and Joe Boniface. Oakley were mounting pressure though and were able to draw level before half time after a corner ball was bundled over the line.

Defenders George Franklin, Jordan Sutton, Tyler Farrugia, and Joshua Wavish were still razor sharp and bright in clearing their lines.

A well directed header from Luke Whitby found Ollie Vine who was at his rapier-like best putting Town back in a well-deserved lead.

Goalkeeper Jordan Bassett was performing at his usual high standard and thwarted several certain goals with seemingly effortless ease.

Town pressed hard to finish the game off and Joe Boniface, Ollie Vine, Luke Whitby and Billy Patterson were unlucky not to score.

However, the final goal came from a well-directed free kick that put Oakley defence under such pressure that a Oakley defender unfortunately headed the ball into the back of his own net.

Bedford Town U14 1
Leighton Town U14 1
Town couldn't have felt more robbed if Bedford and their ref had turned up in black and red hooped jumpers and masks with bags marked swag.

The boys proved they can match anyone if they apply themselves and if they had taken their chances it could have been over by half time. Pursey, Ellam, Payne and Bowdery all went close but couldn't find the net.

It was more of the same after the break and Town deservedly took the lead when the Bedford keeper made a fine save with the rebound falling to Pursey. Bedford couldn't rattle the Town defence with Mander, Harley, Rodger and Chatterton all having big games. Carr played most of the second half through the pain barrier and just when it looked like he was taking home the three points the home team were awarded a penalty. Kirkwood came to collect a hopeful through ball as an attacker decided to hurdle him. Kirkwood had no chance with a well taken spot kick and Bedford got out of jail.

Bedford Town Colts 3
Leighton Town U15 1
Charlie Green made a superb early break and combined well with Luke Binding and Jack Sewell; Alfie Ruston nudged the resultant chance narrowly wide.

Sewell constantly threatened, and a corner he won was delivered well by Tom Gordon and headed just over by Green.

Ailing Captain Callum Boskett was replaced by Liam Edwards who produced an excellent clearing header, and a number of threatening free kicks.
Leighton deserved better than parity at the break, but soon conceded an unlucky second half own goal.

Danny O'Donnell came on, and his sparkling wing play set up a Gordon cross that nearly dropped in.

Tom Coleman's probing, and shots by Green and O'Donnell nearly got Town level.

Despite good defending by Jordan Potter, Dominic Cooper and Lee Adams, Bedford managed a breakaway goal. Boskett was then thrown on up front and proved a handful.

Town's pressure won repeated free kicks, from one of which Edwards set up Sewell to lash home.

Matt Fisher and Potter combined to prevent a certain goal, but Bedford scored later.

Subs Tighe Campbell and Luke Evans strove mightily; a late Gordon strike and Fisher save showed the Reds fighting to the end.

LEIGHTON CORINTHIANS
Leighton Corinthians U8
v Wing Raiders
It was an entertaining game against Wing Raiders with Corinthians players sporting red hair for Comic Relief. In the first period Raiders went into the lead, but Corinthians did have a few chances on goal through Ellis Capp and Oliver Gronert. In the second period Corinthians scored through Oliver and Ellis, also there was strong defence from Lewis Young, Peter Armstrong and Megan Clagett. Raiders scored before half-time.

In the third period it was very even with game going backwards and forwards with each goalkeeper being busy.

In the fourth period Raiders scored first. Oliver scored Corinthian's last goal, but then Raiders lived up to their name by scoring a late goal.

It was another good team effort from everyone from the goalkeeper, defence and attack. Jack Dean got Player of the Day for his efforts in the middle of pitch.

Leighton Corinthians U10 2
Heeland Rangers Charlies 2
Corinthians started off strongly with the midfield of Harry Cropper, Ben Sanders, Nathan Wilson and Tom-Hotshot-Adams all battling well and showing some great attacking and defensive moves. Up front Harry Reid was fantastic as he chased down every ball and forced errors in the away defence. Sean Hull once again tirelessly in defence and Ryan Eaton in goal although not 100 per cent gave another solid performance with some solid catching. Chris Tydings came and added more bit to the attack and defence. Hull opened the score with a well placed free kick which deceived the keeper, but a lapse in defence allowed Heelands to equalise. Just before half time captain Sanders fired Corinthians back into the lead following a long kick from Eaton.

Second half Heelands up the pressure and Tydings now in goal kept the lead safe with some great saves. Once again, a lapse in defence allowed Heelands to equalise. Wilson and Adams worked very hard on the wings attacking and defending, Reid continued to pressure the defence into mistakes, Hull and Eaton worked hard in midfield to create openings and Sanders and Cropper at the back defended well. MoM was close as every player worked hard, but Cropper was awarded it for some goal-saving tackles.

Moretonville Rovers 4
Leighton Corinthian Tigers U14 4
A below par Tigers reaped what they sowed from this topsy-turvy encounter. They started sloppily, the defence that had been so mean in recent weeks having a collective off day and the midfield being reluctant to offer any assistance, resulting in two quick goals for Moretonville.

It wasn't until Felix Long hit a glorious curling shot from the edge of the penalty area that Tigers looked like contenders in this match and when MoM Long repeated his stunning strike a little later, after being played in by Alex Eaton, Tigers went in at half time level.

Tigers improved after the break, though still looking vulnerable to the Moretonville counterattack. Neat play from Jordan Lapworth set up Matthew Ferguson who got the better of the Moretonville keeper and Tigers had turned the game around. Soon afterwards, persistent work from Richard Batten won Tigers a penalty that Billy Pantling slotted home for 4-2 but the game was far from finished.

More slack play from Tigers let Moretonville back in for a third goal that gave the home side added belief and minutes later they had their equaliser. Both teams nearly won it in injury time but a draw was probably a fair result.

LEIGHTON UNITED
Leighton United U8B
v Mid Beds Tigers U8A
Leighton attacked with Kian Christie making a good run testing the Tigers' defence.

Some great defending by Zoe Potts and Kailan Farrugia kept the Tigers at bay but then Tigers scored their first of the game.Leighton again attacked, James Head making a great run forward before hitting a great shot, stopped by the back of a Tigers player. Tigers broke forward again with great defending by Edward Hibbitt and Liam Lindgren and a fantastic goal line clearance by Gian Luca Sinatra keeping the Tigers at bay. Leighton broke forward with a great run by Alex Sibley making an inch perfect pass to the feet of Lenny Loader who buried the ball in the back of the Tigers' net to level the scores.

The second half saw Tigers quickly adding a second goal. Chris Field set about the Tigers' midfield to make a good attack into the Tigers' half followed by Oliver Culley testing the Tigers defence. But Tigers managed a third goal.

Leighton United Girls U10 4
Stotfold Juniors U10 1
United earned their third victory of the season over Stotfold by some margin with a great first half showing. Alisa Chapman and Charlie Lambert worked hard in midfield winning the ball and setting up a number of attacks. At the back, Lucie Webster and Rachel Moffat tackled well and kept the pressure off stand-in keeper Savannah Shepherd.

Jasmine Page saw a number of shots saved before a slick passing move saw her open the scoring.  Page linked up with Chapman to then put Lizzie Richardson through for an excellent second goal.  Chapman went close before putting Richardson clear for her second goal.

Lambert went off injured and United pushed Moffat forwards. With her first touch in attack she powered a shot through the keeper for a 4-0 half time lead.

Stotfold attacked more in the second half, Webster needing to work hard in defence and Jade Linders putting in some last-ditch tackles to keep the visitors out. Shepherd's handling was assured throughout, despite having rather more work to do than in the first half. Richardson and Page tested the Stotfold defence continually but could not find a way through.

Late on, Stotfold grabbed a consolation but the home team finished very happily with all the points.

Leighton United U10B 1
AFC Shillington 2
Dominating possession right from the whistle United soon put Shillington's keeper under pressure. Jamie Leighton placed a great corner ball into the box which Jonah Gutteridge put away for United's first. United played quality football passing well amongst the team, keeping the ball in the oppositions half. Jay Denniston took his usual long throws finding Nathan Ashburner who was ready and waiting. Theo Cox and Alex Aldous-Ball were solid at the back as was keeper Brett Smith taken United into the lead at half time.

The second half saw United concede a goal. Leighton made great runs down the left as did Gutteridge down the right, both unlucky not to score, hitting the crossbar and the post. Denniston delivered great balls to Louie Clowes who battled hard trying to get a much needed second goal. Cox and Aldous-Ball both made outstanding tackles, winning possession. Keeper Smith  made some excellent clearances keeping United in the game. Lady luck was not on United's side and another goal was conceded. Despite numerous shots at goal and fantastic team work it was United's first defeat in 14 games. Better luck next week guys. MoM Jonah Gutteridge for his outstanding performance.

Leighton United U10D 1
Toddington Rovers U10C 9
United were a goal down within minutes of the start, but they tried very hard to compete with a side full of skill and talent.

Sam Olson in goal made excellent saves through out the whole game, even stopping a penalty. Louis Lenander was outstanding in defence which earned him PoM and his defensive partner Joel Parish was equally as good.

United played some great football and Nicholas Tompkins, Jay Parish and Zoe Molloy all linked up well and when Oliver Brown came on he passed to the ever scoring Grant Brandom who blasted the ball into the roof of the net from twenty yards out.

At half time it was 5-1 and really no way back for United, but they kept their heads and with the introduction of Robert Smith and Torrum Ozturk who both played well when called upon.

Leighton United U11A 5
Stevenage Borough Youth 1
Stevenage were soon trailing after a superb corner from Brett Rawson fell to Harry Lander who blasted home United's first.

Jono soon followed and nearly made it two, after a shot from 25 yards struck the bar. Indeed the second goal did follow, after JC headed the ball into the bottom corner. The half came to a close with Jordan Davis narrowly missing a low driven shot.

The second half started, and the defence were brimming with confidence, Jake Shawe and Liam McGuire were pushing forward and taking on midfield players with ease. Ollie Hibbert and Neel Slatter on the flanks worked well to keep the back secure. The pressure was getting to Stevenage, and an own goal soon added to their misery. Stevenage were awarded a penalty but the faultless Charlie Cooper made the save. Luke Janes MoM then found his perfect position in midfield and worked some great balls into the area setting up a strike for Brett which rebounded and fell to Charlie Beary who wasn't going miss. Then Luke passed a lovely weighted ball to JC who converted United's fifth. Stevenage did get one back, but United were unstoppable.

Luton United U13 3
Leighton United U13 2
United were looking to do the double but with only 11 fit players available this was always going to be tough.

The game started poorly when Luton went ahead. Russo's long throw was really causing problems and after 10 minutes Casey managed to score for the equaliser.

Soon after Luton scored a controversial goal. This didn't stop Leighton who through good work from Casey managed to set up Mortimer for a quality goal.

With it 2-2 anyone could have taken this game. Unfortunately, Bell who had been playing so well had to come off with an injury.

Leighton's 10 men kept playing well with Ash and Lewis superb in midfield, and Ferry helping the ever reliable Clegg and Harding in defence. Up front Turrell kept plugging away and was involved in the pressure which got Leighton a penalty.

But the penalty summed up Leighton's season. Russo who has never missed and who had been at the centre of everything all game put the powerful shot a little to close to the keeper. This didn't stop Leighton hitting the crossbar late on though. This was a strong performance by the lads that didn't get the result it deserved.

Leighton United U14 Girls 2
Leighton Town U14 Girls 0
Saturday was Leighton derby day which saw United face rivals Town in a great advert for girl's football.

United didn't play pretty football but did the job needed and bagged three points. In the first half, United played against the wind and called on keeper Paige Blacow to keep the score level.

Sophie Mulvihill, Abygail Dolan, Beth Hill and Shannon Butler kept Town at bay at the back and allowed United to push on. Town also battled and Rosie could have put Town in front but Paige Blacow cleared.

After dominating most of the game, United were rewarded with a great finish from Stephanie Johnson from a Jodi McClelland ball.

United GOM Rachel Quinn proved too strong for the opposition providing great service and unlucky not to be rewarded with a goal herself.
In the second half, United couldn't find the net at first but continued to press. Town's defenders Niamh, Daisy and Kirsten, with support from Kerry snuffed out United's further attacks and as United battled against the wind Danielle and Jessica forced the ball out wide for Town.
Then United's Jodie Molloy's inch perfect corner proved too difficult to defend and the blues were awarded a penalty following a hand ball. Grace Yee stepped up and blasted home the spot kick to round off a two nil home victory.

Maulden Magpies 0
Leighton United 2
The first half was very scrappy, with several chances falling United's way, but no goals scored.

The second half saw Magpies come out the stronger side as they sniffed at a chance of a win.

United battled well against a physical team, whose tactics consisted of a long ball forward to a pacey striker.

United had two good penalty shouts turned down, had an effort turned onto the bar and failed to convert a goalmouth scramble.

United's first goal came from a trademark long throw form Dyer into the penalty area; King back headed it into goal from close range.
United survived two goal mouth clearances, during one of which the ball was fired goal wards three times before being cleared, the last saw a dramatic clearance from Corbett when it looked a certain goal for Magpies.

Corbett's good work in attack saw him create confusion in the defence; the resulting panic saw a defender lob his own keeper in an effort to clear the ball.

Perrin took MoM playing out of position at right back, narrowly beating left back Nichols.

WOODSIDE
Woodside Rovers U8
Newport Pagnell Town Lions
Having lost to comeback specialists from Newport Pagnell last season, Woodside needed a good start which is exactly what they had.
Freddie Heath struck first with a sublime volley from Ryan Connew's corner, before tucking away his, and Woodside's second, only moments later.

Connew was soon celebrating a superb strike of his own, with a somersault that had his team head over heels with joy.
But the joy was short-lived, when the visitors scored a penalty that gave keeper William Shaw no chance.

Woodside refused to be beaten (just for the moment anyway) as Max Jones constantly harried in midfield. And it was Jones that won the ball for Bradley Harding-Farrington to score with a tidy finish.

That three-goal advantage soon became a one goal deficit when Newport, as everyone feared they would, had a revival.

With both Seb Wawrzyniak and Theo Davison being both solid and dogged in defence, Rovers began their own resurgence. And it was Woodside whose comeback was complete when Roland Guwa found Ross Daggett to level the scores again.

And just when you thought Woodside didn't know when they were beaten, they were. When two late goals turned their good start into a bad ending.

Woodside Rovers U10 0
City Colts Cobras 2
The visiting Cobras side were out for revenge after losing to Woodside earlier in the season. They started brightly, seeming to hypnotise Ben Crallan and Sam Cook in defence and striking quickly to go first one and then two goals ahead. It took a while for Woodside to find their rhythm with Owen Claridge unleashing a venomous shot from the right which whistled just the wrong side of the post. At the other end, keeper Noah Heath managed to get his finger tips to a shot and watch the ball slither past the post. Midfielder Mason Coleman was making some his snaking runs and linking up with Luke Williams and Joe Harley but the Woodside attack just lacked bite.

Blake Lewis in defence managed to blunt the Cobras fangs in the second half as Woodside started to play better. They created several chances but the ball just wouldn't go in the net. Luke Williams unleashed a lethal shot which the keeper somehow managed to palm wide and Joseph Raymen pounced on a loose ball in the penalty area but the Cobras scrambled it away. The damage had been done in the first half and Rovers just didn't have the antidote.

Woodside Wanderers U10 0
Newton Longville Reds 0
This top of the table clash was always going to be an edgy affair with neither team wanting to give the advantage to the opposition.

The visitors started brightest and pressed Wood-side back into their own half, although they had plenty of possession, chances on goal were kept to a minimum. As the half progressed Woodside started to dominate in every area of the pitch and a few chances were created with the closest being kept out by the cross bar.

The second half started as the first had ended with Woodside controlling large periods of the game, but not really creating many clear chances. The visitors had come into this match with the intention of shutting Woodside out by defending in numbers and then counter attacking at speed. This tactic nearly paid off, with only a couple of minutes remaining, with a long range effort crashing off the crossbar.

In the end a draw was probably the fairest result for both teams and Woodside remain two points clear at the top of the table with Newton Longville still breathing down their necks.
Team: Nat Goodlad, James Wright MoM, Dan Davison, Tom Herbert, Luke Orlando, Jack Viera, Jamie Leighton, Ross Janes, James Heggarty.

Woodside Wanderers U11 2
Waterhall Stars U11 6
Woodside began this game brightly and forced three early saves from the Waterhall stars keeper.

Unfortunately, this was the calm before the storm as a spell of poor defending cost Woodside dearly.

A clearance that wasn't dealt with led to the opener and this led to Woodside playing statues at the back while Waterhall scored almost at will.

At half time Woodies were five down and staring at humiliation. A better performance in the second half saw Woodies get goals back through Tom Worden and Joe Mitchell. A speculative strike caught keeper Joe Stonell off his line to kill off a fightback from Woodside.

Woodside Rovers U11 1
City Colts U11 8
This hugely flattering score line for the Colts hides an improved performance from Woodside. Although the Colts started quickly, strong defending from Bell, Jones and Drosihn seemed to be weathering the storm. O'Conner, Batty and Connew also fought for early midfield control. Up front Coleman and Davies were quick and inventive when given the chance to attack. Two quick goals on the ten minute mark however took away this early confidence and Woodside were forced back into defensive mode.

A third goal five minutes after half time dented the Woodside moral again, but an enormous kick by keeper Roberts was won by Davies and he used his skills to hold off the defender and stab the ball home for a deserved Woodside goal. The outstanding Roberts saved when one on one with the devastating Colts striker and then again diving at his feet to smother another Colts attack. Milliken at right back worked as hard as he could but the Colts wanted the ball with a desire that Woodside could not match and a series of mistimed tackles and poor clearances helped them to five more goals.

O'Connor and Davies had late scoring opportunities which would have returned a fairer end score line.

Newport Pagnell Town 3
Woodside Rovers U12 1
Woodies continue to improve and again did not get the result their performance deserved because they failed to take the chances they created. Nevertheless, they can be proud of their never say die spirit.

A really solid defensive performance was required and Lewis Pascoe, Robert Irons and Luke Boyes and MoM Robbie James did not disappoint, whilst keeper John Shaw capped a solid game with a fine one handed save before half-time. By then Woodies were 2-0 down having conceded early on and just before the break.
A third was conceded early in the second-half but, still Woodies came back. The midfield driven on by captain Isaac Claridge broke up Newport's play and continued to create opportunities with Rhys Davies having his best game of the season and supported by James Harman, Kieren Fosberry and Charlie Mead. Up front Keigan Smith caused his usual problems for defenders with his pace and direct approach, whilst Tom Boozer ended a personal goal drought in spectacular fashion by crashing home a fine angled shot into the top corner from fifteen yards. He then put Davies in for a run on goal that the Newport keeper saved well with his feet to ensure it finished 3-1.

Woodside Rovers U15 1
City Colts Jets U15 5
Rovers took the lead 20 minutes in after Stiles headed in a pin-point free kick from Jell past the stranded Jets keeper.

This was a wake up call for Jets who increased the pressure but the defence of Robertson, O'Hara, Greany and Arscott-Smith held strong.
The lead was undone when the Jets striker slotted ball past keeper Cherry and they took the lead 10 minutes later.

The midfield of Jones, Jell, Stiles and Ryan worked incredibly hard throughout the half with O'Donoghue and McGarvey running endlessly upfront. Rovers went into half time 2-1 down.

Rovers started the second half how they finished the first - with a positive attitude. For the first 20 minutes of the half Rovers played some of the best football of the game and were all over Jets. Stiles and Robertson came close and Jell came closer, a finger tip save, the post, and a goal line clearance prevented him from scoring a magnificent goal.

But tired Rovers could do nothing to stop three goals, including a penalty, in the last 10 minutes. Final Score: 5-1. MoM: Robertson.

Woodside Wanderers U15 4
Steeple Claydon 6
Woodside hoped to extend their unbeaten run and the omens looked positive when Mitchell O'Connor and Mark Mitchell opened the scoring.

However the team faced determined opposition today. Steeple Claydon took the game back to Woodside and overturned the early lead clawing back three goals before the break. Wanderers were frustrated by some of the offside decisions which were instrumental in the turnaround. The visitors added to their tally, before a determined run by MoM Dan Blythe ended with him forcing the ball home.

Mark Mitchell who Claydon's defence had kept in check, slipped his marker and brought the scores level with his 34th goal of the season. Woodside still played some quality football and created chances which they weren't able to convert, much of time thwarted by the opposition keeper. Despite the best efforts of the players Woodside were unable to prevent a defeat.

Squad: Robin Corston, Matt Forbes, Mitchell O'Connor, Sam Hurley, Dan Blythe, Luke Rhodes, Mark Mitchell, Tom Holloway, Luke Taylor, Gary Wells, Eddie Jackson, Michael Flanery, Michael Johnson, Shane Tiffen and Pat Bell.

EATON BRAY
EB Lions U8 Blues
Sundon Park Rangers U8
A brace of goals from MoM Joe Rabey and a third from Myles Frederick landed the hosts their first victory of 2009. Adept midfield work from Ollie West, Sam Carter, Toby McGee and Joe Thorne had the Lions in charge for most of the opening half, harrying the Rangers defence with their marshalled style and organised passing.

The visitors emerged resurgent from the break however, maintaining a goal threat throughout the second half. Solid defending from Sam Bramston and James Glover neutralised opposing strikes for the most part, and the occasional shot that broke through was comfortably dealt with by keeper Cameron Burchill.

Lions will be looking to carry forward their momentum into this weekend's away clash with SKF Colts.

EB Lions U9 Reds 1 St Martins 3
After a great start with a goal after three minutes by Christie, the Lions were looking comfortable, with Nevitt and Oliver controlling midfield they had many more chances to increase their lead but a mixture of good saves and hard luck meant that the Lions couldn't do it.
Then against the run of play St Martin's scored the equaliser making it 1-1 at half time.

Lions made a couple of errors early in the second half and were punished for them going behind 1-3. Despite Roe and Christie doing plenty of work trying to pull the score line back, it was not going to happen. In their first game in defence for the Lions Luff and De Mio settled into the team well and will be a great addition. Higgs did well in goal and was unlucky to concede three.

Team: Roe, Christie, Oliver, Nevitt, Higgs, Luff, Di Meo.

EB Lions U13 Girls 3
Biggleswade 2
This was always going to be a tough match against top of the division team who hadn't dropped a point. With only six minutes gone, the Lions were two down and then goalkeeper Nancy Oliver had to come off injured. Once the Lions settled they took control of the match and took the game to Biggleswade.

In defence Katy Thiel and Eden Scott dealt with anything that came their way. With two minutes to go before half time Megan Viljoen forced an error from a throw-in and Biggleswade scored an own goal and it 1-2 at halftime.

Upfront Hattie French, Viljoen and Elsa Kirkwood always looked like they were going to score and went close on many occasions.

Substitute goalkeeper Shannon Byrne made a couple of great saves and by controlling midfield GoM Darcy Ashby, Devon Ferguson and Emily Hudson allowed the Lions to push forward and keep the pressure on.

Then with five minutes to go the Lions domination of the match paid off and French scored the equaliser and in the last minute with the Lions still pushing forward again it was French who scored the well deserved winner.

This match was a credit to a team who never give up, play some great football and got a well deserved result.
Team: Oliver, Thiel, Scott, Ashby, Ferguson, French, Viljoen, Hudson, Byrne, Kirkwood.

SOUTHCOTT OWLS
Southcott Owls U8
vNewton Longville
Southcott secured another excellent victory on Saturday against tidy opposition Newton Longville.

The match got off to an exciting start with Newton scoring soon after the kick off. Southcott soon responded with an excellent goal – Jake Saunders dribbling up the right hand side and scoring from just inside the box.  Newton managed to get their noses in front once again with an excellent shot which soared into the top corner of the net. However, after some end-to-end action, the first quarter ended with another Southcott equaliser, as Miles Drabwell dribbled along the left wing and shot the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

The second quarter saw Southcott stamp their authority on the game with two more excellent goals from Jake Saunders and one from Craig Rattray, slotting the ball home from the centre of the penalty area. In the second half, Southcott managed to maintain a clean sheet, with some excellent goalkeeping from Benedict Turley and some important timely tackles from Karl Waydick and Connor James in defence.

Further goals could have come as a result of the midfield work of Lauren Avery and with strong attacks from Tommy Johnston. However, a goalless second half meant Southcott finished comfortable winners against a good team.

Shillington 0
Southcott Owls U11 1
This was a good test of attitude for Southcott as Shillington showed no sign of capitulating like they had in their previous fixture, frustrating Southcott for much of the match.

Connor, Alex, James, Jamie (and Will second half) were excellent and never looked like being beaten covering well for each other in front of Jacob in goal who had little to do all game.

Midfield and up front Southcott lost shape and width ending up with players getting in each others way often looking for an extra pass instead of shooting. When the ball was played wide, Josh, Jonathon, Chris and Fraser looked more effective and each created chances to score.

From nearly 30 chances, the only goal came in the first half when the ball broke loose following stubborn tackling from Nickie and Matt ran in on goal confidently beating their goalie.

The rest of the chances were prevented by courageous defending or woeful finishing as the pressure or desire to score grew. And even though Southcott won, the final cheers came from Shillington. MoM Adam Stacey.
