Town U7s continue to learn skills
HEATH PANTHERS
Heath Panthers U16 Hawks 6
Newport Pagnell Youth 3
The game started well for Hawks with a goal in the first few minutes for Lewis Parish and although Hawks had most of the early pressure they could not convert their supremacy until about 10 minutes before half time when Rory Mattlock slotted home the second goal with an across goal shot. Paddy then passed a goal into the net; the team then settled down and were in control at this stage.
After half time the team again were on the front foot with Paddy, Lewis and Charley hitting the post, but Newport Pagnell never gave up and forced a corner from which Darren conceded an own goal due mainly to the strong wind curling the ball in. This gave the visitors hope and there heads were up and they scored a second goal from long range shot straight into the top corner which gave Mike no chance.
Shortly afterwards with Hawks still shell-shocked they slotted the third, game on. A few quick changes for Hawks saw them again take control with Rory cheekily back healing the fourth and then completing the hat trick after some good passing moves through the Newport defence. The sixth goal came after a superb ball across the pitch from Charley, a save by the keeper and then the follow up by Mike.
LEIGHTON
CORINTHIANS
Two Mile Ash U7 v Leighton Corinthians U7
A first time outing to Milton Keynes for Corinthians saw a very subdued side make hard work of events.
Josh Lowe was called upon early, but allowed a half chance to go past him to see the home side take the initiative.
Billy Lawrence showed some determination and rallied the team together with a good drive finding the back of the net to square things up.
Good positioning by Albert Reed saw him net his first, but by his standards was lacking real drive at times. Calum Elliot was also a little off colour but was helping out Hayden Jones and Dillon Walker at the back.
Reed showed the true striker he is by netting several more despite his lack of drive. But it was "battling billy" Lawrence who stood out by playing with his head as well as his heart and really held things together for Corinthians.
Well done MoM Billy, and a big thank you to one of this year's U7s' sponsors, GPF Brickwork and Scaffolding pictured with manager Dave Lawrence and some of the team.
Olney Town 3
Leighton Corinthians U10 1
Corinthians started off strongly with Jack Wears, Nathan Wilson and Tom Adams working well together in attack. Olney responded and scored from two set pieces as Corinthians failed to clear the ball. Harry Cropper, Ben Sanders and Sean Hull worked well in defence and started to get Corinthians back in the game.
In goal, Ryan Eaton made several good saves and controlled his area. Harry Reid came on and work hard up front and nearly scored.
In the second half Corinthians continued to battle, brave keeping from a battered Eaton and strong tackling from Hull, Sanders and Cropper kept the score the same. Wears and Wilson dribbled fantastically, and hot shot Adams and Reid kept the home defence busy and were both unlucky not to be on the score sheet. A lapse in defence again allowed a third goal but Corinthians continued to battle. Cropper hit the post following a rocket shot, Reid played some great through balls for Adams, Wears and Wilson but the home defence stood solid. Hull and Sanders never gave up and worked tirelessly. Sanders smashed the ball into the goal as Corinthians tried to get back in the game but ran out if time. MoM was close but Sanders was awarded it for an all round great performance.
Leighton Corinthian Tigers U14 2
Cranfield Colts 1
Tigers were made to work hard for their points by a resilient Cranfield side that defended stoutly throughout.
A strong wind favoured the home side in the first half and Tigers sought to capitalise, Justin Tyas and Billy Pantling going close with long range shots. Further chances followed before a deep free kick from Macauley Conway gave Morgan O'Connell the opportunity to net from close range. It was O'Connell who popped up again to lob the keeper for 2-0 after being played in by Pantling's through ball and things were looking ominous for Cranfield.
Tigers kept moving forward, a flowing left to right move involving Rhys Richards, Pantling and a superb final ball from Jack Ellens nearly led to Matthew Ferguson scoring what would have been a fantastic third goal.
Cranfield came into the match a little more in the second half, but it was their defence that remained the busier. Tigers should have put the match beyond doubt with O'Connell denied his hatrick by a goal-line clearance and the Cranfield keeper saving well from Ellens and Felix Long. There was also a squandered penalty from Tigers and when Cranfield converted their own spot kick there were a nervy few minutes for Tigers to see out before they could claim victory.
Hartwell 2
Leighton Corinthians U17 6
After cup disappointment last week, focus now turns to the league looking for promotion. It was Corinthians who started the stronger, having the greater of possession. However it was the home side who took the lead with a brilliant free kick which flew into the top corner.
Corinthians then struck back when they were awarded a penalty 10 minutes later, when scorer Ottaway was clipped in the area. He dispatched the penalty into the bottom corner. They then went 2-1 up just before the break when a Mitchinson strike was parried by the Hartwell keeper, allowing Jackson to poke home.
After half time the weather worsened making the pitch boggy, Corinthians struggled at first until they found a third in Jackson after some good play in the midfield. Hartwell then lost two players in the space of a few minutes as their striker was injured and their right back was sent off for violent conduct which resulted in Ottaway being substituted.
However, Corinthians allowed Hartwell to score their second to make it 3-2 soon after. Corinthians needing to close the game out used the numeric advantage and went on to score their next 3 goals securing the win with Clarke scoring two and Nash grabbing a tap in for his first and probably only goal of the season!
LEIGHTON TOWN
Leighton Town U7 Southcott U7
Town U7s continued their run of exciting games with a draw against Southcott. In the first quarter both sides took time to find their feet but Southcott put pressure on first, with Patrick making two excellent saves.
Little Max was running all over the pitch, proving very hard to tackle and Luca was doing what he could to support him. Ben and Big Max were keeping things quiet at the back when Luca opened the scoring.
However, Southcott were also looking sharp and managed to grab two goals either side of the quarter which was a touch harsh on Leighton. Daniel came on and tried to help redress the balance.
In the second half Town had plenty of chances to take the lead but were a bit wasteful which was proving to be dangerous as Patrick was again being called into action. With Lauren and Big Max pushing up more and more from defence, Ben was able to get forward and score.
Losing another goal in the final quarter meant that Little Max was able to score the equaliser he and his team richly deserved. Man of the Match was Patrick for a great display of goalkeeping.
Leighton Town U9 5
Bedford Panthers B 2
Town made hard work of this victory but in the end got their rewards. In the first half Town played some good stuff in patches and it was no surprise as they went ahead through David.
After this though Town once again relaxed and Panthers hit back with an equalizer and then went in front which shocked everyone watching. Town rallied though and from a corner sent in by Jack, David volleyed an equaliser. Callum was magnificent in everything he did and stood firm to Panthers attack.
In the second half, Town fresh from a wake up call from their manager, took the game to Bedford and with George and Jack running midfield and some neat passing David completed his hat trick. Alex was brilliantly at the back determined to give nothing else away. Nathan ran his heart out and got his reward with a fine finish after more good passing.
Leyton was on and spreading the ball wide to great effect. Isaac was solid in goal and made light of the gale force wind with terrific kicking. The fifth goal came when Jack swung in another great corner and George put a bullet header into the net. Town were now showing their real face and a cross by George led to Jack hitting the post with a left foot drive. Luke was keeping the back tight again and but for a few near misses and good keeping from Bedford a rout could have taken place. Well played lads keep it up for the final push in the league. MoM Alex.
Leighton Town U10 4 Samba Rio 3
This shield competition game started at a fast pace with both teams in attacking mood. Rhys Cullen speed caused the Rio defence problems and Conner Rowson came close to opening the scoring.
However, it was the away side that hit the net first, but Town came close to equalising when the very lively Anthony Ball blasted the first of his several chances just wide.
Owen Cavender in the Town goal pulled of a great diving save and then David Alexander shot just wide.
Straight from the second half kick and Town hit back when Anthony Ball levelled the score, and he hit his second to the Reds soon afterwards.
Rio's long ball game caused the Town defence problems and they conceded a penalty to make it 2 all. Then Rio took the lead again, however Town don't when they are beaten it was Luke Mills who blasted Town level again.
Mathew Callow's kept running at the Rio goal and Kieran Read together with Alessandro Frantellizzi in defence worked hard to stop Rio getting back into the game. Just as it looked like going a penalty shoot out Town were awarded a corner that Luke took. The ball swerved into the box and after hitting a couple of players found the back of the net.
Both teams should be congratulated on a great game that either of them could have won and the MoM award was shared by the whole Reds team.
Hitchin Belles 0
Leighton Town Girls Under 12 1
Town can be proud of their efforts in a hard fought contest which brought the reward of an away victory.
Charlotte Carpenter made a fantastic debut between the sticks and handled everything very well in a very promising display.
Equally Alicia Franklin was drafted into to defence and proved that she is a very accomplished defender.
The midfield trio of Jodie Turney, Chanice Ellis and Kiera Lewis played some good football and kept their opponents under pressure throughout.
Sian Kennett protected the defence with her energy and intelligence although few questions were being asked by Towns opponents.
Victory was clinched by a thunderous free kick from Milly Mander which flew into the top corner.
Dunstable Town U14 1
Leighton Town U14 2
Having thumped the Dunstable side 13-0 a few weeks ago Town knew they would be up for a battle this time around. But Town just kept the upper hand and after several attempts to out pace the defence Muchemeyi finally got his just deserts beating the keeper with a neat near post finish after Elliott's pin point pass. Dunstable drew level though and could have gone ahead as they squandered good chances after bursting through the centre of the Town defence.
The blustery conditions made football hard to play in the second half but Town just shaded the proceedings and Bowdery fired in a low shot to end Dunstable's stout defensive rear guard. Kirkwood still had to be alert between the sticks as he pulled off two fine saves to secure the points and keep Leighton top of the league.
Leighton Town U15 2
Bedford FC A 5
TOWN snapped instantly into action: after just two minutes Charlie Green won a challenge and the ball was rolled across midfield until Luke Binding's probing pass facilitated Jack Sewell's neat goal.
Superb football continued: Tom Coleman's mazy run through midfield made space for Sewell, who almost fed the hard-running Alfie Ruston, whose link play deserved a goal.
When Bedford broke Matt Fisher produced a brave blocking save, but basically the momentum was with Leighton.
On 23 minutes a barnstorming run by Green, who was immense throughout, was followed by a wide ball to Sewell; his pressure caused the ball to break to Tom Gordon, whose stunning strike made it 2-0.
Bedford managed a scrambled goal, but trailed at the interval.
Town's defence, marshalled by the powerful Callum Boskett and poised Dominic Cooper, and with the aid of a Jordan Potter goal-line clearance, held firm for 16 second half minutes. Bedford then equalised with a preventable goal. A superb Lee Adams intervention then kept Town in it.
Tighe Campbell, Danny O'Donnell and Luke Evans came on and contributed well as conditions became atrocious.
Three late Bedford goals, one of which didn't cross the line, cruelly skewed the final scoreline.
LEIGHTON UNITED
AFC Kempston Colts
v Leighton United U8
A less than par performance from the foxes only made tolerable by strong words from the Manager at half time. Both teams started brightly with much of the possession in the Colts half. United were awarded a penalty early in the first half which was netted strongly by Harry Hewwitt, after a hand ball by a Colts defender from a corner floated into the box.
Sadly an open goal opportunity was missed by Bradley Hogg after a decisive run from defence by Jake Frost-Dicker beating 2 players before releasing a strong cross to the far post to a run in from Bradley.
Early in the second half Charlie Pattison a goal after he was put through on goal from a back flick by Bradley direct from a goal kick. Bradley Hogg was then put through on goal by a defence splitting pass from Louie Walker, Bradley went on to go around the keeper before calmly netting the ball.
Kempston kept battling on a won a goal back shortly after.
United attacked again with a solo run from Bradley Hogg down the right wing, Bradley struck the ball from just outside the penalty area and took a deflection to go past the Kempston keeper.
Kempston responded with a top quality goal from a super pass from midfield.
United kept the pressure on with Harry Hewwitt hitting the post from a late free kick just outside the area.
Wootton Rangers
v Leighton United U8 B
On a sunny but deceptively cold morning the young Leighton team put together their best team effort so far this season. Every player made a fantastic contribution to the team's performance.
From the off Leighton were on the attack with Lenny Loader making a great run forward. When Wootton attacked Edward Hibbitt stood firm in defence. Liam Lindgren made a great run beating three players before making a great pass forward to James Head whose shot was forced just wide. Wootton attacked again but this time Chris Field in defence was more than a match for the Wootton players and brought the ball away for another Leighton attack, passing to Alex Sibley whose fierce shot went just wide. However just before half time and very much against the run of play Wootton managed to get a goal.
Leighton started the second half in fine spirit now with the advantage of the cold wind behind them. Oliver Culley and Gian Luca Sinatra made some great defensive tackles to keep Wootton at bay. Zoe Potts made a good run and pass to Kian Christie who made a great attack on the Wootton goal only to see his great effort pushed passed the post. Time and time again Leighton attacked but just could not get the ball into the Wootton net and all too quickly the end of the game arrived, with Leighton still looking for that elusive win.
Leighton United U10B 2
Flitwick Eagles B 1
United played at home which proved to be no easy game. Jamie Leighton and Nathan Ashburner quickly tested their keeper, both unlucky not to score. Mid-fielders Jonah Gutteridge and Jay Denniston were on fine form delivering great balls. This was a tough match and Theo Cox and Alex Aldous-Ball tackled and defended well keeping possession for United. Keeper Brett Smith was busier than usual and made some excellent saves and clearances keeping it a goalless first half.
United quickly scored in the second half when Gutteridge put away a clearance into the bottom right hand corner. Flitwick responded and pulled one back. Denniston took some great throws getting the ball into the box to Louie Clowes and Owen Reay who were both having a great game, continually putting the keeper under pressure. Cox and Aldous-Ball dug in deep keeping it tight at the back not letting anything get through. United were playing great, creating space and passing well.
With the opposition getting rattled it was only a matter of time when Leighton netted United's second giving United their much deserved winning goal. MoM Louie Clowes who had an excellent game.
Langford Girls U10 0
Leighton United U10 Girls 10
United's biggest win of the season so far, but the visitors will be a little disappointed that second-half pressure only yielded two goals. Alisa Chapman opened the scoring after five minutes, before Charlie Lambert in goal was called upon to make a save. Three minutes later, following a goalmouth scramble, Jasmine Page added a second.
Rachel Moffat tried a long shot which foiled the keeper to make it three before Page dribbled through the home defence to put United 4-0 up. Lizzie Richardson came off the bench and with her first contribution fired in a speculative effort to make it five. Page grabbed her hat trick shortly after before Moffat cut in from the right to smash in number 7. Page hit the post and Richardson following up tapped in for an 8-0 half time lead.
Savannah Shepherd took over in goal and had to make a save soon after the break. A passing move involving Lucie Webster and Jade Linders saw United move the ball from back to front quickly, with Richardson crossing for Page to make it 9-0. Despite a huge amount of attacking, United found it hard to avoid defenders, keeper and woodwork for much of the half. Time after time, the final shot was tantalisingly wide or was blocked.
Charlie Lambert worked hard on the right and eventually found Richardson who supplied Moffat with a close range shot to make the score double figures, and also Moffat's own milestone of 30 goals for the season from midfield. Richardson saw two volleys go narrowly wide but Webster had to remain vigilant at the back as Langford made some breaks towards the end of the game.
Player of the match was Jasmine Page.
Leighton United U10 1
Eastcotts B U10 0
On a cold and windy day United battled against a strong Eastcotts side.
Sam Olson, in goal, put in yet another great performance and also did very well when changed to pitch in the second half.
The defence of Louis Lenander and Joel Parish held strong.
In midfield, Nickolas Tompkins, Zoe Molloy and Oliver Brown all played well and to support Grant Brandom up front.
After fifteen minutes United put together a superb move with a great pass from Zoe to Grant who turned his defender and placed the ball into the corner of the net.
Robert Smith and Jay Parish came on to replace some tired legs.
Eastcotts continued to push for the equaliser and it was an end to end game.
In the second half, Eastcotts came out with determination and were awarded a penalty, but this wasn't converted.
United hung on for the last few tense minutes. Well done to both teams - an excellent game of football. PoM - Zoe Molloy.
Leighton United U11 A 1
Bedford Town Youth 3
United on home soil looked to level the scores. Bedford came out strong and within minutes were a goal up. United, not going down easy, came back with some early midfield passes from Luke Janes to JC and Brett Rawson, but were unable to convert the chances.
Still Leighton pressured and Jordan Davis blasted a shot over the bar. The determination of Paolo Bagatti eventually passed a nice ball to MoM Harry Lander, who would have scored, but for a superb save from the keeper.
The pressure eventually paid off as Harry struck a high swinging cross into the path of Charlie Beary who scored, setting up an exciting second half.
The second half saw Ollie Hibbert in a new position up front. Unfortunately, Bedford came out strong, Liam McGuire and Neel slatter were holding up the back lines well, but a superb corner from Bedford curled straight into the goal. This made Bedford hungry for more goals, and only the great heading and battling of Jake Shawe kept united in the game. Soon united's day was over as Bedford broke and scored their third. It would have been four but for Charlie Cooper making a great diving save.
Luton Borough U16 1
Leighton United 4
United started well taking the game to Luton, pinning them in their half against a strong wind.
A fine free kick from Dyer was floated into the box and Goodyear headed home past the keeper.
United extended their lead when a half volley from Goodyear went in off both posts.
The defence of Holden, Dyer, Lynch, Perrin and Nichols were resolute throughout and Perrin, who played well against the lanky Luton striker, was unfortunate to give away a dubious penalty.
Webb dived the right way, but couldn't get his hand to the ball, another confident display in only his second full game this season. Goodyear again went close when his header struck the bar.
A shot was blocked on the line and Mulville was quick to pounce on the lose ball for his second goal in two games.
In the second half the weather deteriorated and made it difficult for either team to play football.
A Cheshire shot was blocked on the line, MoM Goodyear was in the right place to force home from close range and cap an outstanding performance with his hat trick.
Corbett, King, and Ratcliffe battled well in midfield, Roberts, Minney and Lafferty led the line well.
Bucks CC U14 girls 0
Leighton United U14 girls 7
United's girls returned to league action this week and faced Bucks CC away needing the win to remain top of the league and put on a great show right from the start when striker Jodi McClelland smashed home her first of the game.
Paige Blacow had a relatively quiet day but was on hand when needed supported by her usual solid defence of Shannon Butler, Aby Dolan, Sophie Mulvihill, Beth Hill, and MoM Stephanie Johnson.
United continue to press and were rewarded with two goals in quick succession, the first was from Grace Yee following a great pass from Birthday girl Jodie Molloy who kept things ticking over in the middle.
McClelland soon added to her score tally latching onto a weak goal kick from the opponents to make it four following an own goal.
The girls continued to play well, Rachel Quinn scored a well deserve goal after a superb game in a variety of positions, as did Chelcie Page who slotted home her first goal for the team and continues to fit in well.
The game was rounded off well with McClelland gaining her hat trick and United's seventh to remain two points clear at the top of the league.
WOODSIDE
Willen Jrs Panthers U11 6
Woodside Rovers U11 2
It could have been so different after a bright opening few minutes, but an early goal from Willen and a Rovers penalty miss took away the self -belief and their heads visibly dropped.
Two break away goals from Coleman and Connew should have helped restored the belief. But long spells of defending from Ulyett, Bell, Batty and Drosihn and some great goal keeping from Roberts, told the story that Willen were set with attack in mind. Jones in midfield manfully battled but was usually outnumbered and Milliken, Matthews, O'Connor, Coleman and Davies were only ever able to play on the break.
The equaliser was always coming and was deserved when it arrived.
In the second half despite all players getting equal opportunity, Rovers failed to play the cut and thrust football they display on the training ground. They were forced deeper and deeper into their own half. The pressure from Willen was rewarded with four more goals.
Rovers even then did not take the risks that might have seen them restore some pride. A hugely disappointing result.
Woodside Wanderers U11 3
Linslade Greenleas Inter U11 3
A draw was probably a fair result in a match that was played in a fantastic spirit between two very evenly matched teams. Woodside started brightly and only a fine save from George Higginson kept the scores level. The midfield four of Kyle Gallagher, Albie Hall, Matt Leedon and Cameron Hemmings for Inter soon started to take control and it came as no surprise when the Lively Matt Leedon opened the scoring direct from an in swinging corner. The goal lifted Woodside and only resolute defending from Oliver Hill, William Kemp and the outstanding Robert Harding kept Inter in front. Albie Hall nearly doubled Inter's lead but just before the break the scores were level with a well-worked Woodside goal.
The second half started brightly with both teams looking dangerous, Brandon Nicholson and George Pepper were battling well in midfield and Harry Cosby looked dangerous up front. Woodside took the lead with a long range shot but a couple of minutes later Inter were level with another long range shot from top goal scorer Albie Hall.
It got even better for Inter when Hall set up Callum Hack who made no mistake from close range. With time running out Oliver Hill made a wonder save from the penalty spot to keep Inter in front and Wesley Russell blocked a goal bound shot but Woodside got a deserved equaliser with a cross shot in the very last minute that nestled in the top corner.
Woburn Lions 2
Woodside Rovers U12 1
Woodies' hard work and non-stop commitment was not enough to prevent defeat in a close game affected by the strong wind .Woburn, kicking with the wind, took an early lead as Woodies failed to deal effectively with a Woburn attack. Tom Boozer nearly got Woodies back level dispossessing a defender and lifting his shot over the keeper and just past the post. Isaac Claridge was outstanding in midfield and was supported well by James Harman, Dominic Lombino and Oscar Russell.
In defence MoM Robert Irons read the game well and broke up attacks with aplomb. Fionn Bell played a no nonsense game, Robbie James broke out down the left with regularity, Luke Boyes and Lewis Pascoe tidied up attacks and first-half keeper John Shaw's handling was assured. Woodies went two down just before the break as the wind made an in-swinging corner non-defendable.
Woodies got one back early after the restart as Charlie Mead curled an unstoppable shot over the keeper. The game was almost exclusively played in the Woburn half. Second-half keeper George Fidczuk hardly touched the ball, Kieren Fosberry and Keigan Smith playing wide troubled their fullbacks with their pace and Rhys Davies's long throws were an added weapon as Woodies desperately sought an equaliser.
Woodside Rovers U15 0
Newport Pagnell U15 2
Rovers were up against top of Division 2 side Newport Pagnell in the cup for a place in the semi-finals.
Rovers started brightly with Jones, Jell, Stiles and Edmunds controlling the game and had the first shot at goal when Jell produced a good save out of the Newport keeper.
Newport went ahead when a clearance from Rovers ricocheted off the Newport attacker's knee, past Cherry and into the corner.
Rovers still dominated the game but were unable to find a goal. Newport doubled their lead when another rebounded shot dipped over Cherry. Rovers went into the break 2-0 down.
Rovers knew they had to score and went into the second half with an attacking mentality. Robertson and O'Donoghue battled well upfront causing the Newport defense some problems.
With half an hour to go, the game was stopped momentarily because of heavy hail-stones, but was continued 10 minutes later.
Still Rovers pressed on with McGarvey and Jones running endlessly.
But it was the defense of Simons, O'Hara, Greany and Arscott-Smith that kept Rovers in the game. A goal mouth scramble ended with a clearance off the line by Arscott-Smith. But Newport held on and won the match 2-0. MoM: Arscott-Smith.
Woodside Wanderers U15 10
Wing Raiders Jaguars 4
Woodside are enjoying their best run of the season and put in another splendid performance. A keenly contested match against near neighbours in poor conditions. The result sees Woodside record their third consecutive win. Making the most of the wind and capitalising on Keeper Robin Corston's long kicks, Mitchell O'Connor opened the scoring before Mark Mitchell recorded another 3. O'Connor then Mitchell again giving Wanderers a commanding lead at half time. Defensively Woodside again looked solid, with Shane Tiffen, Sam Hurley, Luke Taylor & Tom Holloway keeping Wing at bay. Luke Rhodes and Gary Wells where introduced to retain the lead. The Second half saw Mark Mitchell score, before a spirited three goal fight back by Wing. Raiders' goalie appeared in the box for a corner scrambling home the third. Skipper Michael Johnson battled his way to the box for the eighth. Midfielder Matt Forbes was alongside Dan Blythe who showed passion. Pat Bell slotted a number of quality passes through Wing's defence. Michael Flanery and Eddie Jackson sharing the right wing both made good runs. An uncharacteristic error by Corston saw Wing's fourth before O'Connor completed his best ever game with two more earning the MoM.
EATON BRAY LIONS
EB Lions U9 Reds 2
Crawley Green Lions 3
Lions created most of the chances, but Crawley Green, against the run of play, scored the first goal from an intercepted throw-in during this league cup final.
The second half continued with George Oliver and Jack Nevitt controlling the midfield and distributing the ball well to help strikers Dax Roe and Jack Quigley.
But with a well disciplined defence it was hard to find the opening that was needed.
Then Roe laid the ball off to Oliver who took his chance well to score a great goal.
EB Lions' defence of Findlay Christie and Tom Barbato were under a lot of pressure from Crawley Green who pushed forward whenever they could. As the minutes ticked away it looked as if the match was going to extra time and it did.
Crawley Green had three subs and used them, but EB Lions were down to only seven players who were eligible to play and had to play the whole match without a break. Extra time was ten minutes each way and four minutes into the start Crawley found a way through and went into the lead. Then Quigley headed Lions back on level terms.
With penalties looming, both sides were trying to find one last goal to settle the match.
In goal Toby Higgs pulled off some great saves, but with only two minutes to go Crawley scored to secure victory.
Team: Roe, Quigley, Christie, Oliver, Nevitt, Higgs, Barbato.
EB Lions U9 Reds 5
Luton Borough Dragons Whites 1
Manager Kev Roe would like to thank the manager, players and parents of Luton Borough Dragons Whites for playing an after school match to help with the fixture backlog that occurred due to the recent poor weather.
The Lions started strongly with Dax Roe scoring in the first minute and George Oliver getting the number two in the third minute, five minutes later with only seven minutes gone Roe got his second. The Dragons then settled down and at half time the score was 3-0 to the Lions. The second half started with the Lions again having more opportunities to go further ahead but it was the Dragons who scored the next goal which then gave the Lions the boost to push forward and after two minutes Roe scored a well taken goal to complete a great hat trick.
With the Lions keeping the pressure on, again it was Roe who scored from the edge of the box with a strong shot across the keeper. With some good combination play between Quigley, Oliver and Nevitt the Lions looked a well balanced side. In defence Barbato, Christie, Luff and Di Meo looked solid and coped well anything that came their way. Higgs in goal, distributed well the ball and made some good saves. Team: Roe, Quigley, Christie, Oliver, Nevitt, Higgs, Luff, Barbato, Di Meo.
Toddington U11 8
EB Lions U11 1
Lions crumbled to a disappointing loss in Sunday's league fixture, during a match which they were unable break into for the most part. Strong defensive work from James Pratt, Adam Bradley, Aarin Johnson and MoM Chris McGee was insufficient to counter the neater passing and resolute strikes of the host side, who netted three times before the break.
There was the occasional riposte from the Lions, when Sean Woodhouse, Charlie Nevitt and Mason Ashby were able to poke openings in the Toddington defence, but it would take a solid shot from Dominic Ryan to finally bring about the visitors' loan goal.
Going into the second half with the wind behind them, Lions must have fancied their chances of a more enterprising 25 minutes, but with Toddington seemingly on a roll the visitors were unable to establish any kind of dominance. Some nice saves from Dan Kennel and some eyecatching plays by Tom Horner, Will Juster, Alex Poynter, Aaron Gauntlett and Will Petherbridge weren't quite enough to shift the balance, and Lions suffered their heaviest defeat in several months.
LINSLADE GREENLEAS
Newport Pagnell Tigers
Linslade Greenleas Dynamo U7
Dynamo started strongly and their early pressure was soon rewarded when Ryan Smith scored with a long range effort. The Tigers responded well and equalised with a shot that bounced unkindly for Dynamo keeper Emily Heale.
In the second quarter Tigers went into the lead and were playing some fluent football. However Dynamo defended resolutely through Dan Hodey and Oscar Barnes who were both outstanding and deserved to share the Dillamore Furnishings MoM award.
In the second half strikers Charlie Waple-Moors and Owen Merrington both continued to cause a threat with determined attacking play which had no reward. Tigers then scored two further goals to extend their lead as the Dynamo defence lost their way during the third quarter.
Into the final quarter and Dynamo came back strongly dominating the play and scoring through Merrington. They created a number of further chances to get back into the game but it proved too little too late against a skilful and well organised side. Kieran Carvell, James Mallord and Harry Eacott all passed and tackled well and continue to improve each week.
Water Eaton 2
Linslade Greenleas Athletico U9 4
Athletico were put under early pressure by the hosts, as the early start seemed to catch the defence cold. But, the fine efforts of Axford in goal kept the scores at 0-0. The passing game of Athletico then came to the fore. Dillamore's Furnishings Man of the Match Kharawala took two quick goals supported by Culley in midfield and Captain Dimeo on the left wing, to give Athletico control of the match and a 2-0 lead at half-time.
The second half, playing into the wind, saw Athletico carry on where they left off and through sustained pressure, forced the hosts into an own goal. The pressure then turned as the hosts fought back and Athletico spent much of the remainder of the game defending despite the controlled efforts of Potter. Cantwell then took the ball out of defence and up the pitch and following some beautiful passing by Dimeo, Liggett and Kharawala, Williams was able to slot home Athletico's fourth of the day.
The hosts weren't out yet, however, with a first goal coming controversially as it appeared to be kicked out of the keepers' hands, followed by sustained pressure pushing Atheltico into a defensive error and an own goal.
SOUTHCOTT OWLS
Southcott Owls U11 2
Lewsey Centre 1
Another two goals from the goal machine Fraser Prophet gave Southcott a hard earned win against the most improved team in the league. Lewsey had pace, skill a top draw keeper and a determination which caused the home side problems. The first half could have been a goal fest with both Staceys going close, Cox causing problems and Chamberlain striking well from distance. Parker was back in the side to offer clever passing with McGarry in midfield and the back 3 of Chancellor, Murtagh and Andrews were asked to try something different. Anything that got through was well dealt with by Kimber. Southcott got the breakthrough they deserved when Fraser drilled home from a tight angle.
In the second period Southcott were trying to get quick passing going, rather than lump ball and this proved their undoing when a misplaced pass was intercepted for a superb finish. Adams, Fiske and Bagatti were all brought in with effect and Adams excellent work down the left was rewarded with a fine cross that was smashed home by Prophet for the winner. MoM on the day was the excellent Chancellor but a good win against tough opposition.
