Inter produce their best form of the season
LEIGHTON
CORINTHIANS
Leighton Corinthians U7s
Year 2 players invited to join in on Saturdays
LEIGHTON Corinthians U7s are on the lookout for new players from school Year 2 to train with them on Saturday mornings, 10.30am, at Vandyke Road playing fields.
Coaches are looking to strengthen the side immediately.
Next season, the squad will re-join the MKDJ7s as U8s.
Leighton Corinthians Tigers U14 2
Wing Raiders 0
Second half strikes earn a deserved win
TWO second half goals were enough for Tigers to win a match they dominated from the start against a valiant Wing side.
Tigers created plenty of chances with neat approach play from Felix Long, Jack Ellens and Morgan O'Connell leading to a number of shooting opportunities.
The Wing goalkeeper, however, was in fine form and aided by a determined defence and reckless Tigers' finishing, the game remained scoreless.
Matthew Ferguson, Chris Lawford and Rhys Richards all went close for Tigers before Wing nearly opened the scoring on a rare foray into the Tigers' half, keeper Alex Eaton, getting down well to save.
The second half continued in similar fashion with Tigers on top and Wing looking to soak up the pressure and hit Tigers on the break.
Their efforts were thwarted by some excellent Tigers defending from MoM Thomas Knight and debutant Justin Tyas.
Tigers finally made the breakthrough when a Billy Pantling free kick was headed on by Macauley Conway for Ferguson to score with a first time shot.
A second Tigers' goal arrived courtesy of an unlucky Wing own goal and despite further chances for more goals the match ended a comfortable 2-0 to Tigers.
LEIGHTON UNITED
Leighton United U8B
v Wootton Rangers
Chris and Liam stand fast to deny Wootton
AFTER a six week break the young Leighton side started slowly. Some great defending by Chris Field and Liam Lindgren and good goalkeeping by Edward Hibbitt kept Wootton at bay.
A rare Leighton attack saw Oliver Culley's great shot deflected just wide. Wootton kept up the pressure and were rewarded with two quick goals. Leighton responded with a long run by Alex Sibley which led to Leighton winning a throw, which was received by James Head who took on and beat three Wootton players before calmly scoring a great goal to pull one back for Leighton.
From the kick off Leighton won the ball and Lenny Loader made a good run forward. Wootton again attacked and this time Kailan Farrugia was great in defence.
However, Wootton added another goal just before half time.
After the break Wootton again attacked, this time Zoe Potts and Kian Christie ably defending for Leighton and Gian Luca Sinatra making a great save. Leighton stepped up a gear and piled on a long period of pressure, however a rare break saw Wootton add another goal to their total.
Next Fixture is a home game against Houghton Regis, Stanbridge Lower School, February 1, 10.30am.
Bedford Town Colts 2
Leighton United U13 1
Early penalty gives Colts the advantage
UNITED travelled to Bedford for a game they hoped would see a second win on the road. The game stated badly when Bedford were given an early penalty which Elding could not reach.
But from then on Leighton had all the play and should have scored plenty of goals with their dominance.
Captain Russo and Keegan controlled midfield with Moffat working well out right. But Mortimer scored an individual goal from the left to even things up with 1-1 at half time.
The second half saw Clegg and MoM Bell carry on from the first sweeping up defensively along with Harding and Brown.
But after a little bit of pressure from Bedford the ball somehow managed to trickle over the line to make it 2-1.
After that it was all Leighton with Lewis playing well on his debut and Ash, Turrell and Connew all pushing for the equaliser.
With a few minutes to go it looked like Leighton had got that much deserved equalising goal when Brown scored with a superb half volley but the Bedford arranged referee decided to overrule his Linesman and give offside.
A game no team deserved to lose was unfortunately decided by a very controversial decision.
LEIGHTON TOWN
Leighton Town Reds U8
v Sandy Colts U8
Reds rev up for first game of the new year
OUR first game of the new year and Reds were up for this one. With great passing from Louis and Charlie, Louis opened the scoring. Nathan working hard in midfield released the ball to Charlie who scored the first of his hat-trick with a left foot rocket. His second followed shortly. Freddie and Archie were working hard in defence but Sandy on the break got one past Josh who otherwise had a good solid game in goal. Henry came on and was brought down for a penalty which was well saved by the Colts keeper.
Just before the break Edward came on and slotted home a top corner shot.
In the second half Leo was on commanding the defence and Reds passed superbly with Henry finishing a move put together by Leo.
Edward and Sam. Sam was unlucky not to score but his persistence paid off and he slotted home.
Edward scored his second of the match and Charlie completed his hat-trick. A great passing game from Town who were a pleasure to watch in their first game back. MoM Edward.
Brickhill Wanderers U9 5
Leighton Town U9 0
Wanderers show class in a cup classic
IN this classic cup game Wanderers showed why they are top of division one eventually overcoming a Town side who gave them a run for their money.
In the first half, due to a pre-match injury, Jack slotted in at the back and put in a great display and with Alex just as strong for the first fifteen minutes it was 0-0.
Town were fighting football battles all over the pitch with George and Nathan tackling and running as hard as they have done all season.
The guile of David created a chance for George who just chipped over. Leyton was too putting in overtime on the left and Town were more than equal.
Finally, Wanderers broke through Leighton resistance and then showing a bit of class made it 4-0 at half-time.
In the second half, Isaac was commanding making brave saves at the feet of the strikers and saving well to keep Leighton in touch.
Town produced some good football on a sticky pitch but Wanderers got a fifth. Jack reverting back to midfield created a great chance for George who hit the post and watched the ball roll along the line. It was unjust as Town deserved more for their courage and endeavour.
Callum came on and was superb at the back and the injured Bradlee came on and was solid on the right before he succumbed again to his ailment.
"Well played lads, you didn't let yourselves or the club down and got a glowing report from the opposition's manager and crowd who thought the scoreline was harsh on you. I am proud of your performance and now let's take this form into the second half of the season." MoM Jack.
LINSLADE GREENLEAS
Linslade Greenleas Inter U11 2
Preston Gawcott Tigers U11 1
Inter produce their best form of the season
GREENLEAS Inter produced their best football of the season to beat highflying Preston Gawcott. Greenleas looked very solid in defence with Oliver Hill, Cameron Hemmings, William Kemp and Kyle Gallagher all having outstanding games which kept the Tigers chances to a minimum.
However, Tigers did take the lead after 15 minutes with a stunning drive from just outside the area that left Callum Hack in goal with no chance.
In previous weeks Inter's heads may have dropped but not in this match, as the goal seemed to galvanise the home side into action. Brandon Nicholson won the ball in midfield before linking up well with striker Harry Cosby who set up Albie Hall who was having an outstanding game in the centre of midfield and made no mistake with a neat finish.
The second half was very open as both teams pushed for a winner, George Higginson in the Inter goal had to be alert on a couple of occasions to prevent the Tigers taking the lead but it was Inter who were now looking the more likely. Kyle Gallagher went close with a long-range shot and Albie Hall and Harry Cosby also had chances.
Greenleas were really taking charge now and both MoM George Pepper and Wesley Russell were having strong games in midfield and it came to no surprise when they finally took the lead after a great run and perfect cross from winger Matt Leedon which set up the impressive Harry Crosby who powered home at the far post.
Callum Hack was denied by a great save near the end by Gawcott's keeper, but Inter held their nerve to produce their best result of the season.
