Weather hampered play
WOODSIDE
Woodside Rovers U8
Southcott Owls
THE winter of discontent arrived at Brooklands where even the warm up wasn't warm.
The sub-standard performance seemed to be caused by the sub-zero conditions . . .
Exposure constantly threatened the defence of Seb Wawrzyniak and Theo Davison.
And Bradley Harding-Farrington, and Ross Daggett both froze in front of goal.
But like all local derbies, temperatures rose.
And when Woodside conceded while Max Jones still lay injured after catching a stray elbow it could, even on a morning as cold as this, have boiled over. However, Max, and Woodside did well to pick themselves up.
In midfield, Sam Beaumont was wearing his captain's armband and his heart on his sleeve and he scored with an excellent individual effort.
Ryan Connew was shooting from all angles (well, left ones anyway).
Rowland Guwa made some excellent breaks on the right.
And Freddie Heath tried his Fredinho chip up front.
Meanwhile, in goal, Will Shaw's hands were being repeatedly warmed by the Southcott strikers, including a fantastic penalty save in the second half. But even he couldn't prevent Woodside from slipping to consecutive defeats for the first time in the team's history.
Woodside Wanderers U10 3
Leighton Town Youth U10 0
WOODSIDE put in a gritty team performance to secure their fifth consecutive league win and widened their lead at the top of table.
A large crowd turned out on a bitterly cold morning to watch this thoroughly entertaining local derby.
Both teams created chances during the early part of the match with the home team hitting the post and Wanderers hitting the cross bar, eventually the deadlock was broken after a well worked move was coolly finished by Luke. Both teams continued to work tirelessly playing some lovely passing football.
Mid way through the second half Jack was first to latch onto a loose ball after a goal mouth scramble and found the back of the net to double Woodside's lead.
Leighton continued to press forward and tested the Woodside defence and keeper on several occasions, as the match was drawing to a close another well worked Woodside move found Luke unmarked who scored his second and Woodside's third to wrap up the win.
Team – Nat Goodlad, Tom Herbert, Dan Davison, Jack Veira, Luke Orlando, Jamie Leighton, Ross Janes, MoM James Heggarty.
LEIGHTON TOWN
Leighton Town U7
Leighton Corinthians U7
TOWN U7s had their third match of the season against a strong Corinthians side. On a bitterly cold day, Town started slowly and before they'd had time to warm up, Corinthians had scored.
Ben and Luca worked hard to close down Corinthians but a good finish saw Town concede a second.
Dan made two good saves but was powerless to stop a fine left foot finish to put Corinthians three up at the end of the first quarter.
Max came on and made an immediate impact, running the defence ragged.
With good support from Ben, Max nipped into the box and shot left footed into the corner, giving the keeper no chance. At the other end of the pitch Lauren and Maxi both tackled well to keep Corinthians at bay.
Soon after half-time, the score was 5-1 and time was running out for Town.
Luca swapped goalkeeping duties with Maxi and made a run three-quarters of the length of the pitch and stroked the ball into the goal.
Ben had run his heart out and was replaced late on by Lauren. Town had given it everything. MoM Ben.
Leighton Town Reds U8
AFC Dunstable Youth
TOWN came up against arguably the best team in the league. In the first half a soft goal from the start put Reds on the back foot. Freddie and Leo tried to stem the flow and with Louis and Charlie supporting them and Nathan and Henry working hard up front Reds battled on.
Another three goals followed from great play by Dunstable but Edward pulled a goal back with a great strike and Josh made a brave save to give Reds belief.
In the second half Town huffed and puffed with Archie and Sam coming on to take the fight to Dunstable. Sam was unlucky not to score with his effort. After this Reds collapsed under constant pressure from Dunstable and a quick succession of goals followed. Reds never gave up and battled on to the end with Freddie outstanding. Unlucky lads it was not our day. MoM Freddie.
Sandy Colts 1
Leighton Town U9 7
A footballing master class from Town on a horrid day brightened up the mood of wet and cold supporters. In the first half Town came out with a bang and from a great pass from George David netted his first.
The same combination gave Town their second and now they pushed on.
With Alex and Bradlee faultless at the back once again and Jack solid in midfield Town piled on the pressure and Nathan got his first with a great finish.
Then the passing move of the match starting with Jack to Alex to David to Nathan 4-0. Nathan's hat-trick followed with a close range finish and the half ended.
In the second half Luke and Callum came on to give a great account on defence and Leyton bolstered the midfield up.
A cheeky flick from Jack made it 6-0 and a thunder bolt from Leyton crashed in off the bar to make it 7-0. Isaac then called into action made a double save before a consolation from Colts was the only blemish on an otherwise faultless performance. Well done lads. MoM Nathan.
Leighton Town Girls U12 1
Letchworth 3
LEIGHTON crashed out of the league cup in the first round beaten by extremely worthy Letchworth team who passed the ball around with great accuracy and composure.
Town's game is mainly built around individual skill and physical effort, qualities that have often won them games against technically superior opponents.
Unfortunately, on Saturday the entire Leighton midfield was too ill to compete against a visiting side who passed and moved in great style and scored three great goals to emphasise their quality.
Town tried to muster the strength to gain some dominance in the match and in one of their attacks they succeeded in winning a corner which resulted in a fine goal by Jodie Turney.
There was only going to be one winner however and so it proved with the game conceded at half time in a decision taken to protect the girls suffering further injury.
The visitors were extremely gracious in victory and fully deserve to be in the next round of the Cup.
Leighton Town U14 3
Crawley Green 0
THIS was a day when boys became men in terrible conditions. The first half saw Town playing into a freezing gale.
Mander and Harley stood tall and won the aerial battle while Chatterton and the back from injury Kirkwood kept their wingers in hand. On the odd occasion the defence was breached Tyas kept the ball out of the net. Second half saw a different game.
Turner played some sublime balls down the line to the tenacious Pursey who slipped the ball through to Muchemeyi to slot home.
In the middle of the park, debut boy Carr formed a line of steel with Elliott. While the swift Rodger ran havoc down the right. The second goal came when a free kick was superbly headed in to the onion bag Ellam.
The game was wrapped up when Graham finished well following a through pass from Graham that left the defence lead footed.
Bucks CC 1
Leighton Town U14 2
TOWN started brightly playing some great football, leading to Charlotte having an early shot against the post, soon followed up by Rosie putting Town one up; a typical Rosie steamrollered effort!
Town settled down and soaked up the pressure with Daisy, Carlie and Kerry holding the back line well. What little that did sneak through to Amy was dealt with calmly and without fuss.
Sym, Heidi and Jessica continued to create opportunities with some excellent passing, beating the off-side trap that Bucks were trying to work.
Kirsten kept pushing forward down the right side and putting some good balls into the danger area.
Charlotte made run after run and got her reward when she got on the end of a perfectly weighted through ball and beat the keeper at her near post.
In the dying minute Town eased off and Bucks took advantage and got themselves a consolation goal. PoM Daisy Goldhagen.
LEIGHTON UNITED
Bedford Panthers U8
Leighton United U8B
ANOTHER cold and wet morning greeted both teams. Leighton were straight on the attack with Kian Christie making a probing run.
Leighton attacked but Christie's shot was forced wide.
Bedford attacked again but were stopped by a foul. The free kick sailed into the back of the net.
Leighton's Chris Field battled forward and passed to Hibbitt whose shot was saved.
Leighton continued in their search for a goal with Lenny Loader making a nice run passing to James Head who was brought down in the penalty area by a desperate Bedford defence. Head calmly scored to add the first in Leighton's comeback.
After the break, Bedford played a long ball which caught out Leighton. A great headed clearance by Liam Lindgren stopped a sure goal.
Gian Luca Sinatra then made a great save. Leighton attacked again with Head making a good run, passing to Alex Sibley who scored Leighton's third.
Leighton attacked again. Loader was brought down in the penalty area and converted the resulting penalty to add a fourth to Leighton's total. Could Leighton complete a heroic comeback? Unfortunately not.
Leighton United U11 Girls 1
Mid Beds Tigers U11 Girls 1
UNITED started the game without their normal keeper so Sarah Miller went between the posts and performed really well.
Mid beds went on the attack from the off and scored within five minutes.
The opposition were a very strong and physical side but United battled well and kept them at bay with some quality defending from captain Georgia Carey, and the ever improving Maive Kenny.
The midfield of Abigail Luby, Sammy Lay-Flurrie and Niamh Ryan all played excellent football with some great passes and movement to Zoe Molloy who ran the Tigers defence ragged.
It stayed at one-nil right up to the last minute of full time and when a good pass found Zoe she made no mistake and buried the ball into the net.
In the last few seconds the tall striker from Tigers was one on one with GoM Sarah who made a quality save.
Leighton United U14 Girls 13
Brackley Athletic U14 Girls 0
LEIGHTON faced bottom of the league, Brackley in a game they were expected to win. The girls showed right from the off why they are top of the league and beat their opponents 13-0.
On a freezing cold morning the girls didn't disappoint their supporters.
The whole team put on a great display with every player playing their part in this emphatic victory.
A few specials mention must go to a few players – to skipper Jodie Molloy who won GoM for continuous battling, through balls and overall performance. Stephanie Johnson who came off her sick bed to strengthen the side.
Grace Yee also deserves congratulations for her team spirit and going in goal for the second half, keeping a clean sheet and allowing keeper Paige Blacow to have a spell on pitch and score a hat trick!
The team continue to grow in confidence and look forward to their next league tie against local rivals.
The squad and goal scorers were: Blacow 3, McClelland 5, Yee, 3, Quinn 1, Molloy 1, Johnson, Butler, Mulvihill, Dolan, and Hill.
LINSLADE GREENLEAS
Linslade Greenleas Santos U8
Leighton Town U8
ANOTHER good start by Town. Harrison passed the ball through and Stevens nearly scored, both played with good ball skills and passing. Pickering was in goal and played outstandingly. Defending was excellent through Churchill, Judd and McDiarmid.
Johnson and Crann came on and played really well with good stops and passing from the pair.
Judd made sure that the ball always came out of defence and played well.
Harrison made a great stop and passed to Johnson who ran up the right hand-side of the pitch and passed to Churchill, who nearly scored. Greenleas had a corner and Pickering came out of goal and saved a great cross.
Pickering again saved a low strike and kicked it out to Stevens and laid it off to Harrison, Stevens ran into space, MoM Harrison was unlucky not to pass. McDiarmid made some excellent tackles and kicked the ball out.
Linslade Greenleas Athletico U9 14
Southside Rockets 1
AS Athletico looked to stretch their unbeaten run, the early signs were ominous as the Rockets pressured the Athletico goal from the off.
It wasn't until a quarter of the game was gone that Athletico took the lead through the first of four from Liggett, poaching upfront as always.
Supplemented by two from MoM Culley and one of two for the day from Williams, Athletico took a 6-0 lead, but pressure from the Rockets led to a defensive error by Athletico and suddenly it looked as though the game may yet take a different path.
The second half opened with early pressure from Rockets, but Athletico soon hit their stride. Captain Kharawala led the way with two, and Culley took another four.
Goal of the day was a well taken volley from Liggett, but it was the now customary passing game of Athletico that made the difference.
With Axford keeping a clean sheet, not least through some brave dives on the ball at the feet of the opposition, and Potter and Cantwell holding firm in defence, Athletico saw the game home to maintain their 100 per cent record.
Linslade Greenleas Real U11 4
South Side United 2
DESPITE having the majority of play in the first half Real were punished by an early goal from United.
A headed clearance from James Ward struck another defender and left Matt Tub stranded in goal when United pounced on the loose ball. South Side soon made it 0-2 following a scramble in the Real penalty box.
Real seemed to be sparked by this and pressured United's goal, a corner driven in by Jay Deniston was cleared to the halfway Ward ran onto the loose ball and volleyed first time screamer into the top corner to open his Real account.
Real levelled the score just before half time when Liam Doodey had another long range shot beating the keeper.
The second half was just as entertaining; James Francis had a great game on the left wing feeding numerous chances to the two strikers Oliver Mallord and Jonnie Jeffcoate.
The back line of Ward, Deniston and Tim Elliot continued to soak up Southside raids with some brave saves from Tubb keeping United out.
Real eventually nosed ahead following work on the wing by Francis, the ball was played into Jeffcoate's path who hit a well struck shot to beat the keeper with Mallord ready for any rebound.
Another late goal from Jeffcoate sealed the match at 4-2 for a deserved victory. Another great game from Real of which all the team can be proud.
Dillamore Furnishings MoM awarded to James Francis for an outstanding performance.
Heelands Rangers U11 4
Linslade Greenleas Inter U11 1
THERE were no goals in the first half, but both sides had a number of chances to break the deadlock. Albie Hall and the lively MoM Callum Hack had chances for Inter, but at the other end George Higginson made a string of fine saves to keep the scores level.
Defender's Robert Harding on his return, Wesley Russell, George Pepper & Oliver Hill also deserve a lot of credit for keeping things tight at the back.
Unfortunately, for Inter Heelands were first out of the blocks in the second half and soon took the lead with a well-worked goal.
This spurred Inter into life and wingers Cameron Hemmings and Matt Leedon started to look dangerous down the flanks. Inter were now well on top and were unlucky not to equalise when a Kyle Gallagher shot was well saved.
Greenleas were pushing more and more players forward in search of an equaliser but this worked against them as the home side broke to score two goals on the break.
Inter never gave up and were rewarded for their efforts with the best goal of the match when Harry Cosby rounded the keeper to make it 3-1 after great work from Wesley Russell and Albie Hall.
Heelands made it 4-1 just before the end but both teams deserve a lot of credit for playing very good football on a very muddy pitch.
LEIGHTON CORINTHIANS
Leighton Corinthians U7
Deanshanger Colts U7
STARTING off up-hill, Corinthians completely dominated the match with the conditions suiting forwards Calum Elliot and Albert Reed, having time to take players on and then lay balls off to better positioned team mates , Hayden Jones and Reece Pinder, battling Billy Lawrence was picking up any lose ball and feeding them back in regularly and also netting a couple of goals himself.
In defence Dillon Walker played very well once again helped out in the latter stages by Reece Pinder who looked more settled as the sweeping player.
Joshua Lowe pulled off a couple of good saves but had very little to do other than a penalty which quite frankly he was never going to save!
The player who stood out was left on the bench for the first ten minutes and it paid off with total energy and commitment.
He took on players, found himself space, and dropped his shoulder to open out his body for some very well taken goals, four in total! Well done to MoM Albert Reed.
Leighton Corinthians U10 1
Woodside Athletic 3
A CRACKING shot saw Woodside take the lead. Tigers started to battle back, Jack Wears, Captain Sean Hull and Chris Tydings all playing well in midfield.
Callum Millar harassed Woodside's defence and Nathan Wilson battled superbly. In defence JJ tackled well and in goal Ryan Eaton was there collecting the ball.
Tom Adams got stuck in with some strong tackles. A poor clearance from the wing allowed an unmarked Woodside player to make it 2-0.
Tigers put Woodside under pressure. Hull and MoM Wears continued to battle in midfield, Millar did everything he was asked to do and was unlucky not to score, JJ was solid at the back and when Woodside did get past Tydings grabbed the ball in his hands.
Eaton, now out on pitch, won nearly every ball on the left and opened up the defence with some great passes and Wilson tackled and dribbled fantastically and saw a goal bound shot deflected. Hotshot Adams continued his scoring and could have had a hat trick, but twice the ball bounce the wrong way of the post.
Tigers pushed forwards but their shots were soft and comfortable for the keeper to save. Woodside made it 3 as Tigers pushed for an equaliser. Get well Ben Sanders, the rock was missed today.
Leighton Corinthians U11 2
Southcott U11 3
THIS was a typical local derby between two evenly matched teams, full of passion and commitment, very little flowing football, and not for the faint hearted.
Southcott went for the jugular early on with passing and moving, intelligence on the ball and solid tackling setting the tone.
Corinthians started slowly and found themselves two down early on as Adam Stacey for Southcott opened the scoring followed by a second.
However, credit must go to the home side as they lifted themselves and began to match the enthusiasm of the visitors. Bill Batten fired in from close range following a corner as Corinthians began to get on top in the second half.
With the minutes ticking away Callum Kidney equalised with a goal of the season contender, lobbing the ball up and over a stranded keeper.
As they pushed on looking for a winner, it was Southcott who snatched it late on through Stacey. Both teams can be proud of their effort, enthusiasm and passion especially Corinthians MoM Joe Briars who had an outstanding game as the heart of the Corinthians defence.
Team: Rhodes, Frame, Elliott, Dandy, Pacey, Briars, Batten, Cawood, Buckman, Kidney, Richards, Wyatt, Starling.
Southcott MoM Chamberlain.
Leighton Corinthians U14 2
Wing Raiders 3
CORINTHIANS totally dominated the first half.
The team controlled the ball, passing across which led to the first goal within minutes courtesy of Walker who blasted it in the back of the net.
The midfield held strong, Partridge and Lane took centre with Emberson and Holloway on the wing.
Raiders were fighting back with shots on goal, but couldn't get past Corinthians strong defence of Bassett, Roberts, Wavish and Hawkes.
Goalie damopoulus was injured so Rawlings stepped into his boots and pulled off some great saves including six attempts which were all stopped by Partridge who was on the line with Rawlings.
Just before half time, Partridge scored the second goal by curling the ball in the top left corner. Second half, Raiders fought back and scored and then added a second from a free kick.
Forward, Harmer, had many attempts on goal, but raiders scored their third and final goal.
Corinthains brought on defender, Finniss, to make the final attempt to win, but Raiders held on.
MoM - the whole team.
EATON BRAY LIONS
Bushmead Rovers U8
EB Lions U8 Blues
UNDER some of the most testing conditions, Lions bravely took on top dogs Bushmead Rovers. An encouraging start had Myles Frederick breaking away with Joe Rabey to threaten the opposition keeper and then, minutes later, a second run opened up as mid-fielders Sam Carter, James Glover and Ollie West fed the ball through to the forward again, setting up an impressive strike.
The weather showed no signs of turning, but Lions rallied and following a brace of stunning saves from Cameron Burchell, Myles skipped past defenders, made a neat pass to Ollie and adeptly, on receiving the ball back, netted a fantastic goal.
Defenders Toby McGee, Joe Thorne and MoM Sam Bramston worked hard to keep the oppressive opposition at bay, successfully wresting the ball on more than one occasion, but following the half time break goals went against the Lions in quick succession.
Like so many matches, the scoreline ought to have been a lot closer, but the ultimate the tally was nothing shameful; the Rovers were a formidable opposition.
EB Lions U13 Girls 2
Sacred Heart 0
FROM the first kick of the match to the last the Lions were playing total football, busy all over the pitch, controlling the pace, but at half time it was still 0-0. This was a high tempo game with the Lions controlling mid-field with some strong tackling and great movement forward by Darcy Ashby.
GoM Devon Ferguson was by far the fastest player on the pitch and after some great runs scored what must be a contender for goal of the season. Upfront Hattie French and Megan Viljoen worked hard and Viljoen scored a well deserved second goal for the Lions.
The Lions had Katy Thiel and Eden Scott in defence who were solid and overlapped well to give support when the Lions pushed forward. In goal another clean sheet for Nancy Oliver who was confident and commanding. This was another match when the honour of GoM could have gone to
anyone, another great team display by a side with a great future. Congratulations to everyone one of you and thank you to the subs for their great support.
Team: Oliver, Thiel, Scott, Ashby, Ferguson, Hudson, French, Viljoen, Kirkwood, Byrne.
SOUTHCOTT OWLS
Woodside U8
Southcott Owls U8
CAPTAIN Miles Drabwell led from the front with his best personal performance to date on a cold November morning at Brooklands.
From the kick off The Owls took control and never really looked like losing against Woodside. Lauren Avery, Jake Sanders, Craig Rattray, Benedict Turley, Jamie Hunt, Karl Waydick, Tommy Johnston and Drabwell delivered yet another fine team performance expertly managed by Coach Julie Johnston who now has an outstanding win ratio.
Indeed, without the skill of the consummate Woodside goalkeeper who saved numerous shots, a penalty and a superb free kick from Drabwell with a terrific header over the bar Southcott could have reached double figures.
Woodside had a few chances too but with the equally capable Rattray and Turley rotating in goal when they did get through the Southcott defence they just could not find the back of the net.
As it was, great passing and teamwork between the Southcott players resulted in two goals from Jake Sanders and a hat-trick from Jamie Hunt which sealed the win for Southcott.
Barton Rovers U14 9
Southcott Owls U13 0
A COLD misty morning could have been the reason for Southcott taking their time to warm up, a hole half of the game!
Hats off to a very skilful, strong, well drilled Barton side. Even though tackles were won in the first half, Southcott could not keep the ball as pass after pass went astray.
Second half was better. Strong tackling from midfield and defence, but once won, the ball was being used more thoughtfully.
The Owls can learn from this. Basics of passing and moving can beat even the biggest and strongest sides. Southcott Owls side was Harfield in goal. Captain Clegg, Bell, Tift and Thomas in defence. Bramston, Messam, Murray, Foulger, Brown, and Hearn in midfield with MoM Moffat up front.
WING RAIDERS
Wing Raiders U11 0
Newton Longville Yellow U11 5
WING'S difficult season continues – having been promoted from Division 8 to Division 5 after a successful 07/08 campaign, the team is working hard to adjust to the new level.
A disappointing scoreline for Wing, who's efforts against the team standing joint top of the Division deserved better after a freezing, foggy start.
In the opening minutes, Newton Longville advanced on Wing's defence, gaining an early goal.
Brown and Barrett created havoc in Newton's penalty area, but were unable to convert.
Captain W. Jones and McSweeney covered the pitch well and set up many attempts.
Wing maintained possession but Newton's defence was solid.
Our keeper M.Jones had his work cut out but Chapman, Giltrow and McCabe battled hard to keep it to a 0-3 HT scoreline.
Wiggins' tough tackling kept our midfield tight and some great runs by Goode and Barrett kept the pressure on right to the end.
MoM Allen played the pitch and showed touch and versatility in all positions.
We always looked sharp but failed to get past their keeper.
