Leighton United U16s continue their winning ways
LEIGHTON UNITED
Leighton United U8 v
Dunstable AFC
Dunstable started off well, passing and linking with their forwards, Leighton counter attacking any loose ball. It was looking like Dunstable would be the first to score but a great run from Charlie, passing to Hatchet Harry, saw Harry go on and fire one home. United were starting to find a good rhythm, another corner, Hatchet whipping a shot into the Dunstable goal which resulted in the Dunstable keeper scoring an own goal. Dunstable came out strong in the second half and got an early goal.
More pressure from Dunstable a fine strike from the Dunstable forward which resulted in a great goal. United counter attached beating Dunstable in the tackles, crossed in and Bradley was there to grab another for United. It was end to end stuff at this point of the game and anything could have happened but United kept pressurising and in the end emerged as the far more dominant side. MoM went to Max for an outstanding contribution in defence along with all the other members of the team.
Leighton United U8 v
Bedford AFC U8
Leighton were straight out of the traps, their intentions very clear from the start with a darting run from Hatchet Harry to put Morgan in with a crack at target that went wide. Minutes later, Hatchet missed out on another chance, but the pressure was being applied and chances were there for the taking. It was all Leighton, Bedford were living on borrowed time. Charlie made a great run, took a long shot that bounced off the keeper and finally Bradley got Leighton off the mark. Bedford hit back with some strong play. Hatchet Harry had been looking very dangerous and finally got his prize with the goal that had eluded him.
The first half had been totally dominated by Leighton cutting the Bedford defence to pieces but more chances should have been converted into goals.
In the second half Bedford came out guns blazing looking like a different team, bagging an early goal. Leighton counter attacked, Morgan got a rebound from Jacks shot and minutes later Morgan had a long shot, his total now two. Bedford were now starting to stretch out with some strong runs and good passing which resulted in another goal. Leighton again, Charlie making a good darting run, striking another goal, good play from both sides, turning into a great game.
With the game coming to an end Bedford scored again, then united responded with another from Hatchet Harry. A great contest which wasn't the one horse race it appeared to be at the start.
Leighton United Girls U10 5
Langford U10 Girls 0
United started well with a slick passing move between Lucie Webster and Lizzie Richardson setting Jasmine Page up to open the scoring.
PoM Alisa Chapman went close, and Langford put together an attack which was bravely thwarted by keeper Savannah Shepherd.
The home team did not have things all their own way and Webster and Jade Linders had to remain alert in defence.
Rachel Moffat came on to bolster the attacking options and immediately powered one shot wide, another just over the bar, before smashing in a long shot for 2-0.
Moffat chipped the ball into the box for Richardson to volley in her 20th goal of the season from close range for a 3-0 lead at half time.
United attacked with purpose from the restart. A long pass from Moffat put Page through and her skilful close control saw her through the defence for 4-0.
United mounted several more attacks, including a goalmouth scramble, with Charlie Lambert unlucky not to score, an audacious back heel and shot by Richardson, which was saved, and Moffat hitting the side netting.
Chapman had worked very hard in midfield and was rewarded following a cross by Moffat which was brilliantly controlled and laid off by Page for Chapman to then whack home left-footed.
Leighton United U10 D 3
Sandy Colts U10 C 2
Sandy made the long trip to United and played some great football. United were soon one-nil up after a good move which forced a corner.
Jay Parish took a great corner which was half cleared and Sam Olson was on hand to smash the ball past the keeper.
Nicholas Tompkins in goal was in good form, Louis Lenander who partnered Sam at the back made excellent tackles throughout the game.
Oliver Brown Zoe Molloy and Robert Smith all tried to support Grant Brandom up front.
Sandy made it 1-1 just before the break.
United made changes with Torrum Ozturk and Joel Parish playing their normal game and doing a sterling job.
Sam ran on to a great through ball to make it 2-1. Within minutes United were 3-1 up and with five minutes to go Sandy pulled one back making a nail biting finish. United held on strong to get a brilliant result.
Leighton United U10B 2
Toddington Rovers 1
This was a nail biting game right from the start. United got an early break when Jonah Gutteridge crossed a great ball to Jamie Leighton who put it away for United's first. Nathan Ashburner worked hard trying to keep possession and Theo Cox and Alex Aldous-Ball defended well. United were not on their usual form and if it wasn't for keeper Brett Smith who made two fantastic clearances, United would not be 1-0 up at half time.
A disappointing start to the second half saw United concede a goal when players were caught off guard ball watching. Needing to raise their game United started to pick themselves up and pull together as a team.
Owen Reay and Gutteridge battled hard getting stuck in. Leighton had a great shot at goal as did Louie Clowes both unlucky not to score. It was end to end action and no let up for defenders Cox and Aldous-Ball when Toddington were on a break. Denniston took a throw into the box which the keeper fumbled giving United their much needed second goal. MoM Brett Smith who kept us in the game with his excellent goal keeping skills.
Luton Borough A 1
Leighton United U11 A 5
United started the first half with chances from Brett Rawson and JC, shooting just wide and high of the Luton goal. The Luton keeper kept the score level, after a good save struck by Luke Janes just outside the area. Luton did make life uneasy, but Jake Shawe and Neel Slatter managed to clear the dangerous balls away with help from reliable Charlie Cooper in goal. Ollie Hibbert helped united by driving balls up the left and across to the hard working midfield of Harry Lander and Jono.
But still the scores remained level. United started the second half with more drive. Brett's cross into the goalmouth, caused the Luton goalie to fumble, which allowed hungry JC an easy tap in.
United then moved up a gear, Paolo Bagatti and Charlie Beary used their grit determination to push the ball forward, to JC who threaded a ball neatly to Brett, which ended up in the Luton net. Luton did make a quick break, which resulted in a goal, but MoM JC soon added another, after some lightning runs through Luton's defence. United sealed the victory with two more goals from Brett, one of which started from a great free kick from Liam McGuire.
Bedford Town Youth U13 0
Leighton United U13 1
Leighton had lost twice to Town including 6-0 earlier in the season but they fully deserved the points here.
United set themselves out with Bell man marking Town's top scorer. But this didn't stop United going forward with Turrell working hard up front. The break came from a free-kick when Russo placed the ball superbly over the wall and into the top corner.
After that United were never going to lose the lead. Battling for every ball Connew worked hard as a lone striker. Mortimer used his skill well down the left side.
The back four of Russo, Clegg, Harding and Lewis kept Town to having shots from distance with a magnificent show of defending. When Town did get through Elding saved well to keep his clean sheet.
As the game went on Keegan and Casey bossed the midfield with Moffat working tirelessly down the right side. Ferry also showed great determination to defend from the front. Casey was so close to grabbing a second goal as United pushed forward while Town's heads dropped.
Final whistle went in a friendly, but closely contested game, and United are showing signs of really competing at the top level now!
Totternhoe 0
Leighton United U16 B 3
United's winning ways continued away to Totternhoe. Although slow to start, Leighton's first attack from the pacy Minney forced their keeper to push it over the bar for a corner. This was the start of an afternoon of dominant attacking football from Leighton who should of have a hat-full of goals, however the three that they scored where of high quality involving the front strike pairing of Minney and Roberts and MoM Corbett in midfield.
The defence were solid with Lynch and Dyer controlling the defence ably assisted by Perrin and Butler, Webb in goal had little to do but when called for was up for the task..
Leighton were always in control and once the first goal went in it enabled them to settle and control the game.
The large crowd of away fans were treated to a great display of football and now, unfortunately, will have to wait a further three weeks for the next game with a crazy fixture list which hopefully will not be to the detriment of the form Leighton have now hit.
Leighton's squad today consisted of, Butler, Cheshire, Corbett, Dyer, Horden and Nichols (injured but supporting), Goodyear, King, Lynch, Lafferty, Minney, Perrin, Patrick, Ratcliffe, Roberts and keeper Webb.
LEIGHTON
CORINTHIANS
Leighton Corinthians U7 v
Southside United U7
Going into this game Corinthians were fully aware of Southside United's run of wins and knew they had to play well as a team.
It was therefore a massive reward to see all of the lads perform so well and adapt at times to a more defensive roll when United were not in possession of the ball and work for each other.
Joshua Lowe saved 11 of 13 shots on target and was even getting a fist to the ball on corner kicks, Reece Pinder was once again strong and coping with most of the balls coming through as the last line of defence, Billy Lawrence, Albert Reed and Calum Elliot were all coming back to help and overlap at the back when needed and there work rate was excellent today and they all managed to compose themselves at the business end of the pitch and each and every one of them got on the score sheet, which is why as a team they got the result and why they were all named as men of the match: Joshua Lowe, Reece Pinder, Billy Lawrence, Calum Elliot, Albert Reed.
Corinthian Tigers U14 0
Moretonville Rovers 3
Another disappointing performance from Tigers saw them slump to defeat they can have few complaints about. Moretonville were stronger in most departments and despite an abundance of second half pressure, Tigers struggled to create clear cut chances.
The first half was fairly even, both teams endeavouring to impose themselves on the game to little effect. Moretonville went close from a corner and Adrian Nicholson had a reasonable effort for Tigers before an unfortunate error allowed Mortonville to grab the opening goal. With Tigers looking to respond quickly through Justin Tyas who just couldn't quite get his shot away, Moretonville launched a slick counterattack that culminated in a well taken second goal.
Tigers dominated possession after the break but could not find a way through an organised Moretonville defence and a goalkeeper in excellent form. Tigers' best chance fell to Matthew Ferguson only for the keeper to make a fine close range save.
Ultimately, Moretonville comfortably saw off Tigers limited threat and sealed victory with a scrappy late goal. The bright spots for Tigers were the battling of Jack Ellens, the energy and skill of Rhys Richards and some solid covering defence from MoM Chris Lawford.
Water Eaton Blues 1
Leighton Corinthians Lions U14 2
At long last – the Lions, after losing several 2-1 results, came out tops when least expected, but fully deserved.
Early in the match Lions gifted a goal with indecisive defence and the home side were in control but were unable to increase the scoreline as the defence redeemed themselves.
On a breakaway the Lions forced a corner and in a crowded goalmouth James Hornsby rose highest to nod home Tom Batchelors cross and make the half time score 1-1.
In the second half the home side had the benefit of the slope and the wind and they gave indication of taking full advantage but the Lions were courageous in ensuring that little was left for Matthew Haybittle to deal with.
As their frustration grew some home players used tactics that were not included in the book of football but the referee applied the rules to keep full control.
The Lions' forays were few but produced a surprising winner when Peter Almor blasted the ball into the sky and as the players awaited its descent the ball blew goalwards over the head of the goalie to gave Lions the lead.
The last seven minutes were frantic as Blue fought to retain their second place in the table but it was all in vain.
Leighton Corinthians U17 5
Newton Longville 0
Another good performance kept up Corinthians' 100 per cent home record. Both teams started lively with the home side having the better of the chances. Del Giacco opened the scoring after some good play in the midfield as he swivelled and saw his shot deflected by Ottaway. The second goal came when some brilliant play by Clarke, Ottaway and Del Giacco finally found Mitchinson who guided the ball into the far corner.
After half time, it was Longville who started the better with Dixon having to make some good saves. The third goal came when Del Giacco again from midfield scored from outside the area with a left drive into the top corner. Then the fourth quickly followed with Ottaway getting his name on the score sheet finally, when some good play by the lively Nash and Gregory saw Nash then hit the post but Ottaway was there to tap in from close range.
Then, Del Giacco became the hat trick hero when a cross field ball by Gregory found him on the edge of the area, where he trapped down onto his unfavoured right foot to score for 5-0.
Another solid performance by Corinthians especially by the defence, although Dry gave away a penalty late on, Longville failed to score as Dixon saw the attempt passed the post.
WOODSIDE
Mortenville Juniors Rangers
v Woodside Rovers U8
Against a team they'd never played, at a ground they'd never attended, Woodside still managed to produce a game that was all too familiar…
Exactly like last week, Woodside started well, with Max Jones winning all the tackles midfield.
Exactly like last week, it was the same players opened to scoring. Ryan Connew scored a peach from distance (like last week) and Freddie Heath pounced on a defensive mistake to grab a goal from close-range (like last week).
But the visitors were far from a two-man team…
The smaller than usual pitch meant that Seb Wawrzyniak's defensive clearances and even William Shaw's goalkicks became potential goal-threats.
And Sam Beaumont and Theo Davison covered the whole pitch. Sam because of his tireless running and Theo because he played left wing, right wing and defence.
But for all Woodside's dominance it was the home side who scored next.
Then, with a goal that was more pinball than football, the hosts scored again.
Bradley Harding-Farrington and Rowland Guwa both had chances but it was Mortenville who made the most of theirs.
Conceding another goal late on meant Rovers lost having had a two-goal lead. Exactly like last week.
Woodside Athletic U10 2
Leighton Corinthians U10 0
Corinthians started off strongly with Ben Sanders, captain Harry Cropper, Jack Wears and Sean Hull keeping the pressure on the Woodside defence.
Up front Nathan Wilson worked hard and nearly scored. Woodside fought back and defender Chris Tydings tackled well.
Ryan Eaton and the Woodside goalie made some great saves and catches to keep it level.
Harry Reid broke free several times but some good tackles by Woodside stopped him scoring. Tom Adams played very well on the right side and JJ battled well in midfield and stopped several Woodside attacks.
Second half, Reid played some great through balls, Sanders and Cropper continued to work hard tackling and passing in midfield, Wilson made several mesmerising runs, Wears run up and down the pitch, Adams kept the Woodside keeper busy, JJ continued his hard work and even dribbled the ball past two players to take the pressure off his defence, Hull and Eaton tackled well on defence and Tydings in goal made some great saves.
Sanders broke the deadlock with a thunderbolt shot and soon afterwards MoM Wears made in 2-0 following a fantastic run. Full credit to Woodside who battled to the end and made sure the win was not an easy one and helped make it a fair and entertaining match.
Woodside Rovers U12 3
Bletchley Youth 4
Woodies took their opponents, who had previously won 5-1 and 8-1, by surprise and announced their intention in this league cup semi-final as Tom Boozer won possession straight from Bletchley's kick off.
They took the lead in the second minute as Rhys Davies's long throw caused panic in the Bletchley defence and James Harman took advantage to put Woodies one up. Bletchley hit back immediately but within a further minute Keigan Smith had restored Woodies lead.
Woodies never let their opponents settle. Harman and Dominic Lombino in the centre of midfield intercepted play and drove Woodies forward while Davies on the left and Charlie Mead on the right used their subtle skills well. Nevertheless, Bletchley again equalised before half-time.
Early after the restart Smith had Woodies dreaming of Stadium MK as he again fired Woodies in front. Woodies back four were superbly inspired by MoM Isaac Claridge who seemed to be everywhere but Luke Boyes, Robbie James and Lewis Pascoe were each outstanding. Both keepers, John Shaw and George Fidczuk put in assured displays. Woodies couldn't maintain their tempo and as they tired Bletchley first equalised and then cruelly scored their winner with five minutes remaining to dash Woodies dreams.
Special mention for subs Fionn Bell and Oscar Russell for their superb attitude.
LEIGHTON TOWN
MK City Pirates v
Leighton Town U7
Town finally got their rewards through good football. In the first ten, Town came out on fire and a spectacular shot from the half-way line from Dan put Town ahead. Pirates came right back and grabbed an equaliser. Town then from the kick off went ahead again with a good move from Luca to Max P who finished well. Again Town pushed on and Ben was strong in defence. Luca went through to make it 3-1.
In the second ten, no goals were scored as both teams cancelled each other out. Patrick made some smart saves and Big Max was immense in defence. In the third ten again both teams kept a clean sheet and Ben now in midfield was working hard with Max P but nothing came to fruition. In the fourth ten, Town went mad with Luca grabbing four more goals and Max P bagging his second.
Again MoM Big Max was excellent at the back with Dan and they gave nothing away as another clean sheet was kept by Town. Patrick was called into action and kept goal well. What was pleasing was that Town started to play football knocking the ball around and it was nice to watch. Well played everyone.
Brackley U8 v
Leighton Town U8
Town showed commitment and desire and proved they can play really good football. McDiarmid was determined not to let Brackley get past and found Stevens who nearly scored.
Judd helped the strikers out and made an impact with some really solid passing to Hickman, who also nearly scored. Special thanks to Pickering who played well in goal.
MoM Churchill and Tyas came on and from the word go made lots of chances with their passing and space, both were unlucky. Johnson, who was in defence, made three or four runs down the right-hand side and crossed the ball in. Harrison tackled until he won the ball and dribbled it round two players and passed it to Churchill who was unlucky.
Stevens and Hickman spaced themselves out, passed the ball well and made some great scoring chances. McDiarmid and Judd made sure the defence was solid and Jack created some good chances for Hickman and Stevens to score.
An exciting climax saw a fast paced last 10 minutes, with great all round play from every player. The chances for Town kept on coming, but the team were unlucky not to find the goal they really deserved.
Leighton Town U9 2
Westoning Recreation Club A U9 3
In the first half, Town were pushing hard and Jack playing in a sweeper role tried to get the passing going. George worked tirelessly in midfield and Nathan and David again worked well to give the opposition a hard time.
Westoning scored first. Town rallied and George with a precise effort hit the bar after lobbing the keeper from the halfway line. A fine move from Nathan and George set up Jack whose shot was parried, but Nathan followed up, had his effort well saved by the keeper.
Alex and Callum defended brilliantly again, but were helpless when another good move put Westoning two up.
In the second half, seconds after the restart, Leyton hit the post and the ball found it's way to MoM Jack who thundered in a shot which left the keeper no chance. Town were now on the front foot, but sleepy defending and keeping resulted in a third for Westoning.
Town unfazed pushed on with Bradlee defending strongly and Isaac made a couple of smart interceptions.
Luke defended well and chances for David and Nathan came but were thwarted. Time was running out when a fantastic save from the opposition keeper from George led to a defender scoring and own-goal from the resulting corner.
Leighton Town Girls U12 2
Sacred Heart 3
A VERY exciting game played in lovely conditions by two evenly matched teams. Sacred Heart started extremely well and raced into a two goal lead.
The second half was all about Town though as they responded in magnificent fashion by playing a ferocious brand of attacking football.
Kiera Lewis stroked home the first goal as Jodie Turney created havok in the away teams defence. Chanice Ellis was sensational in her lone defender role as she shackled the Sacred Heart attack. Alicia Franklin and Rae Glennon ran themselves into the ground to keep the momentum in Towns favour. Sian Kennett dribbled pass numerous opponents and finished with a great left foot finish to bring the scores level.
At this stage Town looked likely winners but they were caught on the break as they started to tire. Charlotte Carpenter was superb again in goal, handling and kicking superbly.
Leighton Town U14 1
Barnfield Colts U14 1
Usually when Town play Barnfield they are like a rabbit trapped in the headlights but following a good performance last week expectations were high. And the boys didn't disappoint as they went for it from the start. With the wind at their backs Town turned the defence on numerous occasions but they still held firm. Chatterton and Elliott both worried the keeper as the hosts passed their way through the visitors. The first goal was always looking imminent and when Graham closed the opposing keeper down following a through ball he reaped dividends as the clearance fell kindly and he chipped into an unguarded net.
The second half was a different affair. Town though defended resolutely with Chatterton and Mander coping well. Kirkwood was as brave as a lion coming out to meet the Barnfield seven foot striker when called upon!
And Rodger had his best game in Leighton colours. Just when the home side thought they were home and dry they were caught with the sucker punch. A quickly taken free kick lost possession and the Colts striker chipped over Kirkwood on the break. Town nearly nicked it late on when Rodger fired goalwards but couldn't find the onion bag.
LINSLADE GREENLEAS
Linslade Greenleas Dynamo U7|
Great Linford Cobras U7
Dynamo opened the scoring straight from the kick off through Charlie Waple-Moors. They then dominated the play in the next quarter and were rewarded with a fine goal from Owen Merrington from a difficult angle.
The Cobras then pulled a goal back after the unfortunate Dan Hodey scored an own goal. Cobras grew in confidence from there and without exceptional tackling from Hodey and excellent keeping from debutant goalie Kieran Carvell, they would have been behind.
Merrington then added a third with a well taken shot but Cobras didn't give up and scored just before half-time. The second half was more even with Ryan Smith and Oscar Barnes running and passing well and Emily Heale and James Mallord tackling fearlessly.
Following a succession of free kicks the Cobras finally got the equaliser they deserved and this made the final quarter tense with Dillamore Furnishings MoM Carvell making a great save to keep Dynamo in the match and Merrington unlucky not to get the winner late on.
With better team play and in particular passing Dynamo would have won this match but in the end a draw was a fair result.
Linslade Greenleas Real U11 2
Woodside Rovers U11 2
A much-improved performance from the Woodies saw them gain a hard-fought draw in this local derby. The Rovers had to equalise twice but they showed a never-give-up attitude that has been missing in recent weeks.
The Woodies first goal was a tremendous piece of passing football.
Stuart Matthews provided the pass of the season to set up Max Coleman who finished with an exquisite chip over the advancing keeper.
Woodside's second goal came from a speculative effort from Kerry-Louise O'Connor which bounced high into the net. It was a great game which could have gone either way in the end, so the draw was probably fair.
Keeper Mark Roberts earned another MoM award with a string of fine saves and brave blocks. Representing Woodside: Mark, Lloyd Milliken, Max, Harvey Jones, Kerry-Louise, Nathan Winters, Alex Batty, Peter Ulyett, Cat Connew, Michael Davies, Conor Drosihn, Stuart and Morgan Bell.
Linslade Greenleas Athletico U9 2
Harrold & Carlton Panthers 2
This game was always going to be tight. After 15 minutes a nice passing move involving Dimeo and Culley, laid the ball nicely into the area for Kharawala to drive home.
The game seemed to be running in Atheltico's favour going into the break 1-0 up. The second-half saw the visitors quick off the mark and score an early equaliser, due to a lapse in the Athletico defence.
The tide then turned back towards Athletico with a free-kick just inside Panther's half. Launched into the goal area by Captain Williams, it was an easy touch home for Culley. Despite some nice touches, Liggett was unable to convert to add to his season's tally.
Panthers fought back well, stretching the limits of stalwart defender Potter and Dillamore's Furnishings Man of the Match Cantwell. Despite the best efforts of Axford and with only a few minutes left on the clock, the Panthers captain took a powerful strike to level the scores at two each, to set up next weeks repeat fixture in the cup quarter final nicely.
SOUTHCOTT OWLS
Southcott Owls U8 v Willen U8
The Owls had their toughest match of the season in this friendly against Willen Juniors. The squad, comprising captain Craig Rattray, Jamie Hunt, Lauren Avery, Connor James, Karl Waydick, Jake Sanders, Miles Drabwell, Tommy Johnston and Benedict Turley worked hard in this fast paced, all action game.
Willen claimed the first goal but Southcott retaliated with some impressive passing creating plenty of opportunities. Within minutes Jake Sanders had equalised and by half time Southcott had a slight edge. However, in the third quarter Willen launched a counterattack but unfortunately found Ben Turley in fine form in goal and rebuffing everything that came his way.
The battle continued in the fourth quarter with some hard fought midfield battles but to the disappointment of bystanders neither team could score. By mutual agreement at the end of normal time a fifth session was played, primarily to exercise Willen's larger team, and as Southcott flagged Willen popped in a winning goal.
As they say "practice makes perfect" and with quality matches like this one under their belt Southcott can be sure to put their best foot forward in those all important league matches.
Southcott Owls U13 2
Watling Youth U14 0
A very even match in the first half saw few chances either end, the only shots on goal coming from Hearn and Tift from outside the box. Once again thanks to a strong defence of Clegg, Gillings, Thomas and Captain Bell the score at half time stayed 0-0.
Not for the first time this season The Owls put in a much improved second half. The centre of midfield, Foulger and MoM Howard, finally got on top, winning tackles and linking play.
Gillings, Hearn and Murray found more space on the wings and created good runs to put Watling's defence on the back foot. A break from the right wing found Moffat who crossed and Hearn was there to force the ball home. Soon after Hearn went off injured. Goalkeeper Hartfied made a great block from a one on one. Tift and Quinn came in to the defence as Watling pushed forward, but it was Waterhouse who, from the edge of the penalty area, twisted and turned, eventually rolling the ball over the line for The Owls second.
EB Lions U11 0
Mid Beds Tigers U11 8
League leaders Mid Beds moved another step closer to clinching the division on Sunday at the expense of a resolute but ultimately out gunned Lions side. The hosts were on level terms for the opening ten minutes and maintained a goal threat through forwards Dominic Ryan, Ben Roberts and Aarin Juster, but by degrees the visitors' confidence established itself and a flourish of goals landed before the half time break.
Making their defensive debuts, Will Petherbridge and Aaron Gauntlett conducted themselves impressively, driving home every challenge and alongside Aarin Johnson and Alex Poynter worked well to protect keeper Dan Kennell, who produced a series of eye-catching saves.
During the second half, a mobile unit of midfielders comprising Mason Ashby, Chris McGee, Sean Woodhouse and MoM Charlie Nevitt were instrumental in making forward progress, but were overcome by the structured plays and organised passing of an impressive Mid Beds team.
WING RAIDERS
Wing Raiders 5
Linslade Greenleas Inter U11 2
Searching for a first league win of the season, Wing started brightly and put Linslade under pressure in the opening ten minutes. W.Jones, McSweeney and Heasman controlled the game in midfield and kept Linslade pinned in their own half.
Linslade rallied and a quick break led to a goal 0-1.
Raiders responded instantly, a surging run from Goode creating the chance for Barrett to equalise with an audacious chip over the keeper. 1-1.
Outstanding defence followed, with decisive tackling from McCabe, Giltrow and Chapman to keep Linslade at bay. Late in the second half, Linslade broke well and again took the lead 1-2.
Raiders again replied immediately with a powerful strike from the edge of the box by McSweeney. 2-2. Half Time.
Wing dominated the early part of the second half, although keeper M. Jones was on his toes to deal with several Linslade breaks. Finally, Wing's pressure paid off as great interplay between Wiggins (Captain) and Brown set up Barrett for his second. 3-2.
Barrett then finished off the opposition with two more terrifically taken goals to give Wing a well-deserved, and long-awaited victory. Final score 5-2. MoM Chapman for a brilliant defensive performance.
