U8s met Banbury
Leighton Buzzard U8
A good turn out by the Buzzard U8s team who supported each other very well through all 3 games against a very large Banbury Squad!
The first game was fast and kept both sides on their toes seeing Oliver Gronnet scoring the 1st try. Banbury evened the score very quickly and proceeded to take the lead. Tom Pickering and Connor Briggs scored a try bringing it level but Banbury then won final score 6-4.
After a short break the second game started well, Banbury had fresh legs on but Buzzards did their best to hold them off. Connor B scored 1st try for Buzzards followed by 2 further tries from Oliver G and Harry Charter. However this was not enough to hold off a fresh Banbury team who came back to win 6-3.
Due to lovely weather a further 3rd and final game was played. Yet again a fresh new team were brought on by Banbury who faced a tiring Buzzard team, even though they felt hot there were some brilliant passes and good scoring from Oliver G,George Vincent and Connor B. The final score 6-3 to Banbury. Our man of the match was Oliver Gronnet.
Leighton Buzzard U10
Buzzards made the short trip to Aylesbury on Sunday to take part in their first Junior 10s festival. First game saw them up against the home team and they started well with Connor Bunting running in the first score of the day successfully converted by a Tom Robson drop kick.
Buzzards held their own until nearly the end of the short 10 minute game time when Aylesbury got one back and converted it to draw 7-7.
Buzzards second game against the unknown quantity of Amersham and Chilterns was a joy to watch as they tackled well and used the available space to run in four unanswered tries from Bunting (2), Robson, and Luke Stanbridge with Robson converting one of the tries to make the final score 22-0.
Third game against old nemesis Dunstable was a close affair but Robson made the difference by intercepting a wayward Dunstable pass to run in a score between the posts and successfully convert it to secure the win 7-0.
Final game of the pool stages was against an unbeaten Beaconsfield side who showed their class from the beginning and made the most of their pace to defeat Buzzards easily running in four tries to make the final score 0-22. Finishing second in their pool gave Buzzards a semi final festival place against Fullerians who were a tour de force and they ran in six tries in a long 10 minutes of play to win 0-40.
Overall a good team performance in their first 10s festival. Well done to the rest of the squad not already mentioned: Tom Atkinson, Callum Beach, Michael Conlon, Robert Davies, Brian Foulger, Bradley Gates, Tommy Green, Jordan McEntaggert, Wills Messum, Sam Nicholls, Jack Stacey, Leuan Thomas, Ryan Tift and Ben Vincent. MoM Tom Robson.
