Over the past year, the nursery and early years provision at The Rushmere Park Academy has gone from strength-to-strength, starting in 2016 and expanding to support nearly fifty 2-4 year-olds in more recent times.

Annette Martyn, the Early Years manager, has looked after the nursery and early years since it started and is very passionate about ensuring that children have a safe and nurturing learning environment. Supported by a team of highly skilled and qualified practitioners, they work hard to support both the whole family, not just the child, offering a fully wholehearted early years’ experience.

Situated on East Street in Leighton Buzzard, the nursery and early years team are incredibly proud of the transformation they have gone through, proving exceptionally popular with local families and providing children a confident start to their education. Recently, they have been recognised as one of the top nurseries in the area by Day Nurseries in Leighton Buzzard.

With a strong focus on offering children a fun and friendly setting, the nursery is committed to ensuring that the individual needs of the child are met, through positive and motivating experiences, which in turn plays a major role in the child’s future learning and development. Key elements of this approach include a supportive climate of shared learning and experiences, a focus on the child’s strengths and using a ‘can-do’ attitude. Encouraging play is vital for setting the foundations for future learning, especially in younger children and so play is the medium in which children experience the early years foundation stage curriculum. Here they develop and learn as play demands concentration, perseverance and both physical and mental effort.

The nursery and early years provision has the added benefit of sharing their setting with the main school, The Rushmere Park Academy, meaning that children can enjoy excellent facilities such as a spacious outdoor play area and large playing fields, iPad and SMART technologies, soft play gym facilities and brand new toys and furniture. Being based within the school also means that young children can seamlessly transition from nursery and early years to the main school, helping the transition of starting school.

In addition, children are part of the school’s lunch club which provides them with a delicious hot home cooked meal, prepared by the experienced kitchen team.

The nursery offers wrap-around-care, starting from breakfast club in the morning and the ‘Jester Club’ after school, allowing flexibility for parents and the opportunity to pick up their children at a later finish of 4.30pm. The team at The Rushmere Park Academy appreciate that parents may need additional support with their working lives and by offering a flexible childcare option in a supportive and nurturing environment, they establish a reassurance for parents that their child is happy and settled.
