Church in Cublington hopes to uncover the mystery of Bernard Turney

A church in Cublington is looking for the descendants of a former villager.

A monument to Bernard Turney and his wife in the chancel at St Nicholas Church, is in need of restoration.

But before work can commence, the church needs to try to contact descendants of Mr Turney who may have been a Justice of the Peace.

The monument is in Latin with only the names of Mr Turney and his wife clear, and the date, 1680.

There is no other mention of the Turney family in church records which date from the 16thc to date so the church would be interested to know how and why the monument is in a small village church.

If you believe you are a descednant or if any person is aware of the identity of a descendant they can contact the petitioner and Dicesan registry. If you have any information contact Roy Shons 01296 682787
