A Leighton company director whose brand new £355,000 four-bedroomed detached house has been bedevilled with problems says his dream home has become the house from hell.
Father-of-two Paul Adams, 40, of Theedway claims he would have had more rights as a consumer buying a loaf of bread than he’s had with builders Persimmon Homes.
Mr Adams and his partner Lianne Adlington, 30, have a catalogue of complaints including no water pressure, showers incorrectly placed, an expensive Amtico floor ruined by the wrong cleaning product and scorch marks in the ceiling after a downlight exploded leaving “a melted mess”.
In addition the driveway had to be relaid twice after they moved in and the weatherboarding – which he says was guaranteed for 50 years – is already falling off the walls.
To add insult to injury, the house has been built with standard red bricks and not the ones specified which have been used on the majority of houses on the development.
Mr Adams has been so unsatisfied with Persimmon’s response he has contacted his MP Andrew Selous, who has taken up his case, as well as Watchdog and Trading Standards.
Persimmon Homes Midlands MD Richard Olroyd said: “We are aware Mr Adams has experienced problems and we apologise sincerely.
“We are committed to resolving the issues to his complete satisfaction. Our constructon department has met with Mr Adams at his home and agreed the works that need to be undertaken.”
This response was met with scorn by Mr Adams who said: “Their ‘construction department’ have not met with me since July last year.
“Since then I have had no contact from anyone except a customer care representative who says ‘someone will be in touch’. They never are.
“When Mr Olroyd says they are ‘committed to resolving the outstanding issues’ I assume they will shortly be knocking my house down and building it with the correct bricks? I don’t think so.”
