It’s just one of the changes to bus services Central Bedfordshire Council is asking residents to have their say on.

The council currently subsidise or partially fund 53% of bus routes in Central Bedfordshire while also covering the cost of 43,000 bus pass holders every time they use their bus pass.

At a time where the council funding has been reduced this is seen as being neither sustainable or a fair way to use council tax payers money.

The council is looking at developing a fair and transparent process to make decisions about whether or not to fund bus routes that do not have enough passengers to make them financially viable for commercial operators

Decisions on levels of service provided will take account of commercial bus operations, actual bus usage and alternative provisions.

All the changes are set out in detail in the new draft Passenger Transport Strategy which can found at www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/consultations.

You can have your say online by visiting www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/consultations or pick up a copy of the consultation from your local library.
