Leighton-Linslade’s prestigious Honorary Burgess award for 2016 was presented to Patricia Armstrong and Hilary Lennon on Thursday evening.
The accolade was in recognition of their many years of voluntary service with the Leighton-Linslade Cancer Support Group which has benefited so many residents of the town.
The duo received an engraved enamelled brooch and a certificate from Town Mayor, Councillor Ray Berry.
Both cancer survivors, Patricia and Hilary have been the nucleus and driving force of the group for several years.
The group meets each Friday from 10.30am to 12.30pm at the Salvation Army Hall, Lammas Walk and offers support to sufferers of any type of cancer.
In 2015, the group celebrated its 10th anniversary and continues to go from strength to strength, providing tremendous support and encouragement to anyone attending.
A council spokesman said: “This ‘Title of Dignity’ is a prestigious award reserved for the truly deserving.
“If you know of a deserving candidate, the town council will be inviting nominations for 2017 from June until October.
“A nomination form will be available to download from our website from June onwards (www.leightonlinslade-tc.gov.uk ).”
