Car park resurfacing should be complete by end of November

Resurfacing work on Leighton Buzzard’s multi-storey car park should hopefully be complete before the Christmas shopping season hots up.

Improvements began several weeks ago and have another month to run before being complete.

A Central Bedfordshire Council spokesman said: “Work started on the car park on the 5th October, working on repairs to the safety barriers and drainage system.

“We will replace some of the existing restraint system to bring it up to current design standards.

Additional barriers will also be installed in areas that have the highest risk of vehicle collision.

“Replacement and cleaning of drainage channels and damaged pipes is under way.

“Towards the end of October, work will start on removing the existing surfacing on the aisles and localised defect areas and install a new waterproofing membrane on each floor. Work is progressing well, and is expected to be complete by the end of November.”

One disgruntled shopper, however, told the LBO: “One wonders who makes such decisions as to start work on the car park on the run up to Christmas. Surely this is not going to help with Christmas trade. The local traders must be up in arms.”

“Surely the summer would have been the time to do this if indeed it was necessary?”
