A man has been charged with murder over the death of a dad-of-three near Leighton Buzzard this week.
Thomas McCarthy, 24, of Toddbury Farm, Slapton Road, Little Billington, will remain in police custody before facing Luton Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
He is charged with the murder of 43-year-old Patrick Maloney on Tuesday, August 2.
A post-mortem examination carried out on Mr Maloney, who also lived at the same site, has revealed he died as a result of multiple crushing injuries – consistent with a heavy collision with a vehicle.
Mr Maloney’s wife Margaret said: “I’m devastated at the loss of my husband, my best friend and a wonderful father to our three boys.
“All of our hearts are broken. Finally, to our family and all who knew Patrick, he was a gentle giant.”
A 42-year-old woman also arrested on suspicion of murder is currently on bail with strict conditions and is due to return on 14 September.
Officers are now standing down crime scenes in Little Billington, but police continue to piece together the events which led up to Mr Maloney’s death.
Det Insp Jerry Waite said: “While we have withdrawn our live crime scenes, we will continue to conduct visible patrols over the weekend and are continuing our investigation into the events of Tuesday.
“We would remind the public not to be alarmed, and if anyone has any information, or any concerns, we would still ask them to ring 101 quoting Operation Castor.”
