A man was struck on the back of the head and knocked to the ground by attackers along the Grand Union Canal in Linslade yesterday (Thursday).

Police are appealing for witnesses after the attempted robbery on the towpath between 4.15pm and 4.45pm.

The victim was approached from behind by two men and hit with an unknown object on the back of his head. He fell to the path and one of the men then attempted to steal his wallet but he was able to fend them off. The two men then ran off along the towpath towards Tesco.

One of the suspects is described as black, in his 30s, slim, about 6ft tall, with short grey hair. He is believed to be unshaved, have a Celtic design tattoo across his right arm, and was wearing blue shorts.

The second man is described as being in his 20s, white, well-built, and approximately 5ft 10ins. He had short dark-brown hair, was clean-shaven, and was wearing a grey hooded top, blue jeans, and white trainers.

PC Ben Jones said: “This was a random attack on a man who was simply going about his daily business when he was physically assaulted. Fortunately the victim only suffered a minor injury and was able to fight off the two offenders and retrieve his wallet. It is very important that we find those responsible and stop them from committing further crimes of this nature.

“If you believe you might know two men that match this description, or if you witnessed the incident, then I’d urge you to contact us immediately.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Jones on 101, text 07786 200 011, or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
