It was a nasty start to Christmas Day for a man who was the victim of a street robbery in Leighton Buzzard.

Police are looking for witnesses who may have seen the attack near South Street, at 1.30am on December 25.

The victim was walking along the alleyway between Billington Road and South Street when a man came out from behind a tree and demanded his wallet and mobile phone.

PC Ben Stone, investigating, said: “At that time of night just as Christmas Eve becomes Christmas Day, I expect there would have been plenty of people around the centre of Leighton Buzzard and might have seen the offender either before or after the robbery.

“You might even have been threatened by this offender.”

The thug is described as black, slender and lean, wearing a white, gold and black snood covering his mouth, a black hoody and grey tracksuit bottoms.

Anyone who saw a man matching the description in the area around South Street or Billington Road should call PC Stone on 101, or text 07786 200011, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
