Leighton Linslade’s older people can look forward to a new activity to enjoy following the cancellation of their tea dances by the town council.
The monthly event was stopped because of a fall in the number of people attending the dances, but the council has already lined up a new programme to offer them.
They will be running a trial programme of armchair exercises. A council report states: “There is a clear indication that older people still feel that socialising; health and wellbeing are very important factors.
“This, therefore, may be a perfect opportunity for the town council to explore a new initiative that helps establish such support for older people in the town.”
There still be two different types of 45-minute classes, Fit 4 Ever and Sit & Stay Fit.
The first one is adapted exercises in a chair at a gentle pace and the latter is to music.
Taster sessions will be at the Tactic centre, Hockliffe Street, if there is popular demand for the classes, they will begin in May.
