Greenleas Lower School pupils have made their third and final visit to Taylor Wimpey’s Billington Grove development, as part of their ‘adopt a plot’ scheme.
Youngsters from the Year 4 Hawks class were invited to three site visits at the housebuilder’s neighbouring development to learn all about how a house is built.
On their first visit in January, the children saw the initial foundation stage of construction, while the second visit in June taught them about the substructure stage of construction, when the roof was on, scaffolding was down and the internal walls were installed.
The completed, carpeted property has been handed over to Aldwyck Housing Association, who kindly gave permission for Taylor Wimpey and the pupils to visit for the third and final tour.
Deputy headteacher Gemma Grossman said the ‘adopt a plot’ scheme has given the pupils a fascinating insight into the construction industry, as well as warning of the potential dangers at building sites.
She added: “We’d like to say a big thank you to Taylor Wimpey for allowing us to visit.”
