Budding chefs will be treated to free cookery demonstrations tomorrow (Saturday) as Leighton Buzzard continues its celebration of the annual British Food Fortnight with a visit from guest chef Clover Hutson from Artisan Foods.
Hailed as one of the country’s “top masterchef talents”, Chef Hutson will be showing foodies how to cook without fuss with whatever fresh food she can find in the town centre market. Demonstrations will take place at 10am, 12pm and 2pm by Market Cross.
Last Saturday, at the start of the town council’s Food Fortnight promotion, visitors to the monthly farmers’ market were able to meet with Beds Young Farmers to learn about where different cuts of meat come from and ask more about country life.
Leighton-Linslade Town Council also has another special event planned to celebrate British Food Fortnight. On Saturday, October 3, local organisations Leighton Linslade Allotment Association and Bedfordshire Beekeepers Association will be in town giving shoppers a chance to find out more about what they do and get involved, or just get some advice.
A new Street Food Quarter has also become a feature in Leighton Buzzard Market where traders sell a variety of hot food on Tuesday and Saturday market days. Cuisines range from Caribbean to pie and mash.
British Food Fortnight is a national awareness campaign that encourages people to support local farmers in their area and get involved by getting an allotment or simply growing their own fresh food in the back garden.
