Pupils and staff at a Leighton Buzzard school have been inspired to raise funds for facilities to help improve their fitness.
Teaching staff from Heathwood Lower School put a team together to run in the Blenheim Palace 10K Marathon on Sunday, September 30, to help raise funds for an all-weather running track to go around the extreme perimeter of the school playing field.
Heathwood Hurricane Heroes, so named by the children, have been training hard all through the summer to achieve this feat of stamina.
A school spokeswoman said: “The wellbeing of the children at Heathwood is paramount to our school ethos. Healthy, happy children are our priority.
“From the start of the autumn term all children and staff have been taking part in the challenge to exercise for at least 30 minutes during the school day. The increase in physical exercise has become routine rather than a chore and the benefits are already evident. But we hear from the children – what are we going to do when the ground is wet? How will we be able to run our laps around the field?”
The school has a target of £5,000 for the all-weather track so the children can exercise safely all year round. If you are a past pupil or local business that would like to support this good cause please contact the school or go to https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/heathwood-lowerschool
