Leighton-Linslade celebrated its 10th anniversary as a Fairtrade Town with a celebration cake art competition involving partners Heathwood Lower School and Off the Rails LB.

Heathwood’s little learners were very excited when MP Andrew Selous and Cllr Gordon Perham presented winners and runners-up with Fairtrade chocolate prizes.

The 30 pictures will be displayed at Leighton Buzzard Railway Station.

The icing on the cake was that overall winner Layla will take her classmates on a train trip – courtesy of London Midland – to Berkhamstead Castle for a fun morning visiting the ruins.

Fairtrade Leighton-Linslade chair Sally Reith said: “We are so inspired by the extraordinary involvement we’ve had with the school over the years.

“They’re always stimulating to work with and it’s great we’ve been able to celebrate our anniversary with them in this special way.”

Off the Rails LB’s Daphne Walker added: “It’s great to be able to add some sunshine to commuters’ journeys after so many months of disruption.”
