A Leighton Buzzard lawyer is busy preparing his bike and his body to join about 20,000 other riders for a 100-mile cycle challenge on Sunday.

Mike Fitsell, of Osborne Morris and Morgan, is gearing up to take part in one of the UK’s biggest cycling events, in aid of the British Lung Foundation.

Setting off at 6am from Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the Prudential London-Surrey 100 takes its riders on closed roads through the capital and out into the Surrey countryside, before returning to London to finish on The Mall.

Now in its fourth year, the festival was developed by the Mayor of London to generate long-term economic benefit to London and the UK, while raising money for good causes. The event forms one component of the world-class Festival of Cycling.

Taking a cue from the London Marathon, the ride brings together professional and amateur cyclists, as they take on part of the Olympic road race route, including the infamous Box and Leith Hills.

Mike is raising money for the British Lung Foundation in memory of his mother, who suffered from lung disease and passed away in 2013.

The charity works to prevent, treat and cure lung diseases which affect one in five people in the UK, and to improve the care of sufferers.
