The Linsdale singers were in fine form for their concert at St Barnabas, Linslade on Saturday, December 6.
The concert was part of the Festival of Christmas Trees whose theme was ‘Gifts’ and the evening showed that the Linsdale singers indeed have many musical gifts. The choir now includes some new members which adds to the body of the sound.
The evening started with the processional plainchant hymn ‘Creator of the stars of night’ which introduced a novel echo effect from the men! Everyone seemed a lot happier to be in their places and the concert proceeded with audience participation and some lovely Christmas music, beautifully sung, interspersed with an organ piece called ‘Les Anges’ by Messiaen and played by Paul Daggett.
The piece finished very quietly as the angels went back to heaven but we were woken by the noise of fireworks outside the church.
Musical director, Dennis Pim, has been very busy with new compositions such as ‘Prophecy’ with words by Siân Clifford included in the first half and five works either arranged or composed by him.
The concert was a great success, much enjoyed by all who went and raised much appreciated funds for the restoration of the St Barnabas organ due to commence in January 2015.
