Theatre group treat for Laburnum Court

A group from The Leighton Buzzard based Advance Theatre Company performed excerpts from their upcoming Showstoppers 2014 production to residents at Laburnum Court Sheltered Housing.

Residents were entertained with songs from the shows including Les Miserables, 42nd Street, Singing in The Rain, Fiddler on the Roof and more.

Drama graduates from The University of Winchester Nathan Rutherford and Hayley Green, took on multiple roles to keep the audience entertained including the Thenardier’s with Master of The House from Les Miserables. They were joined by Rose Bruford undergraduate Lissie Allsopp who performed On My Own from Les Miserables beautifully and Oom Pah Pah from Oliver with real spirit.

Lissie was joined by Vandyke A level drama student Helen Mountford and events co-ordinator Josie Derland for a wonderful rendition of Matchmaker from Fiddler on the Roof and also Three Little Maids from the Mikado. Josie also showed her musical skill in The Cup Song.

Gap year medical student Luke Birtles, Milton Keynes College media student Will Faulkner and local performer Jacki Banfield sang and danced their way with ease throughGet Happy, Lullaby of Broadway, Put on a Happy Face and many other favourites.

Leighton Buzzard Library Theatre’s Mark Rutherford took on the role of the menacing foreman from Les Miserables and also the Chairman in Oom Pah Pah from Oliver.

The group will be performing a full length production of Showstoppers on November 22 at The Vandyke Theatre at 4pm and 7pm where they will be joined by The Advance Theatre Company children’s choruses who will bring selections from Annie, Oliver, Bugsy Malone and The King and I.

The Company is affiliated to Leighton Buzzard Children’s Theatre.

Other adult members performing on November 22 include Sam Peplow, Luke Walsh, Paul Weidner and 2014 graduate also from The University of Winchester Emer Downey. The company will perform Showstoppers from all the above and more! For more details email
