Man, 20, struck by train near Leighton

There were hour-long delays on Saturday evening after a young man was struck by a train close to Leighton.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “We were called to the line south of Leighton Buzzard station shortly after 6.30pm on Saturday to reports a person had been struck by a train.

“Colleagues from Bedfordshire Police and East of England Ambulance Service also attended, but a 20-year-old man from Dunstable was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin has been informed.

“We are not treating the death as suspicious, but will prepare a file for the coroner.”
