Off-peak travellers from Leighton Buzzard train station will bare the brunt of rail price hikes.

The average fare of a rail ticket in Britain will increase by 2.2%, while regulated fares – including season tickets – will increase by up to 2.5%.

However some off-peak prices have gone up by almost 10%.

Commuter Jonathan Underwood told the LBO: “I travel to London for work every day and sometimes I go off-peak, that has risen from £14.50 lastyear to £15.90.

“That is an extra £300 a year on travel, my pay has been frozen for three years.”

> Meanwhile more than a dozen rail services have been cancelled today by London Midland Trains, mainly due to train faults.

The 09.34 London Euston to Tring and 10.26 Tring to London Euston services have both been cancelled due to overhead wire problems.

On Friday there were also problems when a signalling issue near Leighton Buzzard led to delays.
