Exhibition fills in missing Link on key route
A multimedia exhibition is taking place next week so that residents can see how the open space on both sides of the Woodside Link road will look.
There will be an opportunity to catch up on how construction work is progressing for the key route which will link Houghton Regis to the M1, plus news of interesting archaeological finds.
The exhibition starts on Wednesday, July 20, 2pm to 8pm, at the A5-M1 Link Visitor Centre, Sundon Road LU4 9TX.
The display will then switch on Thursday, July 21, 2pm to 8pm to the Sandringham Hub, 48 Sandringham Drive, Houghton Regis LU5 5UP.
On display will be diagrams of the areas to be landscaped. There will be a large-scale illustration of the new community orchard to be planted near to Wheatfield Road, alongside a plan of the open space near Frogmore Road, which is to contain natural play features and seating.
There will also be a short video featuring visual artist Bettina Furnée, who will talk about the Woodside Link art projects she has put together.
A display board will remind residents of the artwork that is to feature on the retaining wall on Sandringham Drive and on the Woodside Link’s acoustic barrier – graphical representations of audio tracks recorded using sounds submitted by local people.
Visitors to the exhibition will also be able to hear a preview of one of the three audio tracks recorded by sound artist Dr Marcus Leadley using the local sounds sent in.
Another exhibition board will reveal some of the Roman archaeological finds discovered along the route of the road. In addition, information will be available on the work left to do to finish construction of the Woodside Link road and there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions.
Cllr Brian Spurr, Executive Member for Community Services, said: “This isn’t just a scheme to provide vital connectivity between Houghton Regis and the M1, it’s an opportunity to enhance the environment with exciting landscaping and art projects. The exhibition will give residents a preview of everything that’s planned.”
