Rail commuters at Leighton Buzzard station received postcards urging them to support a protest against rising fares on Monday.
Handed out by members of the South West Beds Labour Party, travellers were urged to fill in the cards complaining to their MP that fares had increased three times as fast as wages in the last five years, and asking for the railways to be taken into public ownership.
“Midland Rail is part owned by French State Railways who profit from our government subsidies and high fares in this country” said Mike Bishop, Labour’s Constituency Secretary.
“We should be ploughing those profits back to improve our railways or reduce fares. It really doesn’t have to be like this.”
The action was part of a national campaign organised by Action For Rail.
