A triathlon just for the kids is being organised for a second time this summer.
Leighton Buzzard Triathlon Club are holding the Kids Triathlon race on Saturday, July 9, with age groups now extended from eight years old up to 16, to cope with the numbers anticipated.
Following on from the huge success of last year’s sold out event the organisers have extended the race to an extra age group and upped the capacity of the race to allow as many budding Olympians of the future to take part and enjoy a triathlon.
The race will again be held in the safe confines of Cedars School and Tiddenfoot Leisure Centre with both the run and bike section taking place on a traffic-free course.
A club spokesman said: “If your child is new to triathlon don’t worry, this event is ideal for all abilities and no experience is necessary.”
The event starts with a pool swim followed by a quick transition into cycling gear for the bike section and then finally the run with varying distances depending on age.
To help, the Leighton Buzzard Triathlon Club coaching team will holding a couple of introduction sessions nearer the event for any children who have never taking part in a race before.
The spokesman added: “We aim to make it a family day out and are working with various local businesses like Nostra Pizza, Shakebox Milkshakes and OMG Hotdogs to provide on-site food and drink to make sure everyone is catered for.”
The event will start at noon on the day. Entry cost is £20 per child with a £5 discount for additional children from the same family.
For any adults interested in triathlon, the Leighton Buzzard Triathlon Club is a friendly club for all abilities with high quality coaching and offers free taster sessions on Thursday evenings. If you are interested email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit www.lbtri.org.uk
