Several of the incidents were discussed by users on social media, with claims that stones had been thrown.

A Bedfordshire Police spokesman said: “We received four reports during this time on 23 December.

“At around 9.30pm we were informed that a single-glazed glass front door in Weston Avenue had been broken with an unknown missile. The informants didn’t see anyone leaving the scene.

“Then, at 10.30pm we were called by a householder in Brooklands Drive to say that approximately 30 minutes prior, their front window had been smashed. A stone was found under the window and was believed to have been used to cause the damage. Again, no offender was seen.

“Also at 10.30pm a call was made to report damage to a car door in Roundel Drive, by an unknown missile by an unknown offender.”

At 11.00pm we were made aware of another incident of damage, to a car window in Brook Street, by a stone which was found in the vehicle. Nothing was taken from the vehicle and no offender was seen.
