A national charity that organises Sunday afternoon tea for small groups of elderly people is poised to launch a new group in Leighton Buzzard.
Contact the Elderly spokesman Liam Johnson said: “We’ve got the volunteer hosts and drivers – all we need are the guests.
“If you’re an older person who would enjoy something like this, or if you know someone elderly who would benefit from the service, please get in touch.”
He added: “I was really touched when an older guest of ours – a 90-year-old lady who lives in London – said that when her driver picked her up for her first tea party five years ago, it changed her life. She said Contact the Elderly had given her years of happiness and something to belong to.”
The charity is behind 620 tea party groups across the country, which means more than 5,000 older people are invited to afternoon tea every month.
